Hey everyone. I'm a 21 year old Male and have had acne since I was about 13 off and on... I took accutane in 2009-10 for 6-7 months and was finally clear! My skin was so perfect for almost a year!!! I went through something similar to marine bootcamp and the conditions my skin was exposed to was less than ideal lol. Anyway, it started to slowly come back and now it has came back(Not as bad as before accutane)... but still bad enough to go to a derm. I was put on Ziana Gel and Doryx, used it for several months but was told that the Ziana gel "was not strong enough"... So I just got put on Tazorac and have stayed on doryx... Would love to document my progress again as I did with accutane :/ it sucks I can't outgrow this #$@%!!!

I will try and post pictures sometime soon! some post tane pictures and my skin now.... I have a career where I'm around people all day, a girlfriend... a life now... it sucks that people still deal with this still!! hopefully this will work well. I'm considering asking for a second round of accutane if I don't see results soon.

Believe it's the 4th day of Taz.. I haven't noticed an increase in redness but I have noticed more peeling skin. I'm not sure if I had an IB or if it's on the way.... Not sure how long that usually takes with this? I did get a few new spots after my first usage of Taz so hopefully the IB won't be so bad! Will post pictures soon.

I was on it with Ziana for about 4-5 months then off for a little while. Now I've been back on it for about 3 months @ 150mg.

Almost 2 weeks in.. my skin tone is a little better already, a few less spots and a few newer ones popping up. So far I'm surprised with how little of an IB I've had. Hopefully this medicine isn't messing with me!

I've been on doryx once before and I am honestly not sure if it works because I've been on a topical with it. I think maybe some redness or puffyness is associated with it but I'm not sure... I really don't feel weird with it. I would rather be on it than off of it tho w/ Taz just to be safe and hopefully speed things up.

hey I had a break down and went to my derm today we had spoken about taking antibotics but my appt was till 28 of this month. I cant handle the ib without some extra help. she prescribed minocycline 100 mg I weigh 106lbs im tiny so I guess this is my dosage. my insurance doest cover it so I had to pay $30.00 for it. I think I am going to change to doryx bc I know my insurance covers that one I have used it before but for other reasons. I hope I get better with this.oh and thanks for the comment my bf doesnt really care about my acne or if I wear makeup after almost 8 yrs he seen me fat, skinny, preggo, with and without acne but still lol. we always want to look our best for our partners.

Hey man, just wanted to tell you peeling is a really good sign! It seems like the people that retinoids don't work on, never experience any peeling. Did you have any with Ziana?

It's probably a good thing you're off Ziana btw. I personally dislike it because of the antibiotic aspect. (The Clindamycin Phosphate in it is a topical antibiotic.) You shouldn't use topical or oral antibiotics long term, because it's breeds resistant super-bacteria or it'll stop working as you develop a tolerance. For that reason, you probably shouldn't be on antibiotics for too long. Most good dermatologists don't even allow oral antibiotics for that long. They're supposed to be a temporary suppressant.

Try and stick it out with the Taz, I've heard great stuff about it long-term and absolutely nothing good about it short-term! Lol.

Thanks! I am determined to stick it out with Taz. I know the peeling is a good sign! I am only seeing minimal redness with it too. Most of the spots are minor. My skin has scars from previous acne still, but I hate getting any new spots because of how good my skin looked post-tane.... I agree with the antibiotic aspect of it. I figured I built a tolerance already . . . . . and I saw no peeling or redness from Ziana.... I felt like it didn't work at all!

Ah it's been almost.. a month now? My skin was doing good(for about a week and a half) nearly clear, color better... now for the past week I have been breaking out!!! Forgot how much this sucks! Hopefully it will start improving soon. I've got a couple spots now I can tell will be big whiteheads when they finally surface and a few spots that have came and gone and are still marks tho. Hopefully will start getting better sooner than later!

Ugh.. yep. Those big red spots that I spoke of a few days ago are not going away! One has turned into a bigg whitehead and I have a few new spots forming on my right side as well. That right side is giving me problems! I'm trying not to sleep on it as much. I'm getting a few new spots on my chin area under my lower lip too. I had a couple spots on my left side pop up but are already starting to go away thankfully.. but my right side is a mess, and those whiteheads... I forgot how hard it was not to pick the big ones!!!

I go back to work Thursday too.. ugh hate going anywhere when my face looks like this. I have christmas shopping to do to.

well it's been almost 2 months I believe... Still no big results. still getting smaller bumps and red type marks. It's especially bad around the outside of my lips and underneath my nose! goodness! so dry and red/flaky there too! my skin has a shine too it sometimes, my forehead looks good, but the rest of my face looks red n has marks or the smaller type bumps around my mouth... Not sure when this is going to start working :((((

About.. 2 1/2 months in?

Still about the same as a couple weeks ago... my color is better around my forehead and cheeks. i still get some zits around my jawline and the biggest problem area is STILLLLLL around the sides of my mouth and under my nose. Dryness, little whiteheads, kind of hurts sometimes! It just will not clear up around there!
