I started when I was younger to have pimples only on my forehead. Then, slowly but surely it progressed down my t-zone and expanded along my cheeks. Now, 7 years later, I find that it is crawling all the way down the first fourth of my neck! Does anyone know why my acne seems to crawl (migrate) like this from one place to another? Could there be an internal factor? Posted Image

My case seems similar, as a teen I had acne on my face. Now in my early twenties, it has cleared well, but my back suffers now. Strange how these things work.... I can't figure it out to be honest!

Guys, some of the reasons include genetic characteristics. I guess this is the case for both of you. What I want tell you that never neglect them as simple pimple. If they are migrating like this you should take medical attention from skin specialist.

I still haven't gotten a beard (I'm 16) and I've had neck acne too. It started this year.

I suggest you don't scratch your neck at all. It may sound stupid, but actually, I've came to the conclusion that scratching (even with your finger tips) causes more and more problems. You should also check what shampoo you use (change it to another one in case that's the reason) and keep your hair rather short (for the back part of the neck). Having good night sleeps helps A LOT too. I noticed I kept on getting this huge spots on my neck every time I couldn't sleep well.

Accutane has been a miracle for my neck acne, though. I'm on my 4th month and I'm completely clear, and only get one spot every once in a while because I scratch and cause irritation. However, I went on Accutane because I also had bacne, acne on my arms, and obviously, on my face. Luckily, this treatment is really worth it!

I'm exactly the same. Over the past three years, my breakouts migrated from my forehead to my temples, to the sides of my face, now to my jaw and finally huge outbreaks on my neck. I don't understand this migration. Really, when you look at the simple science of what causes a pimple to clog, this "migration" should not happen. It's definitely alluding to something else happening with the body. I just don't know what.

Wow, thanks everybody for your thoughts. Vanbelle/Buzz08, I too have often thought that the common belief that acne is caused strictly by blocked pores (bacteria, sebum, dirt, etc) is a misconception. I do believe that our society has an awful amount to learn in finding the actual "cure" for acne; our skin symptoms may very well mirror a cry for an alternative, more effective remedy. After all, there are many people out there who wash their face day and evening (which should clean any average wound to heal itself properly, if even that would be too much cleaning) and their acne still persists. ...Something tells me that the dermatologists this day and age still may be stuck in the stone age.

I am also a little hesitant to lean towards the view that genetics are the sole cause acne. I wonder sometimes if they may be a contributing factor, but I doubt it is the culprit. Part of the reason why I am dubious about this theory is because of my own family. All of my siblings have acne, however neither parent had acne as bad as we did. As they said, "I only got the occasional pimple. My skin was pretty good." My grandparents also did not have acne as bad as my siblings and I did. We try our hardest to cleanse it day and night, but to no avail.

However, one thing that has been a miracle for my skin is Tea Tree Oil. The directions say not to apply it in its pure form, but I do that all the time (a few times a day) as a spot treatment... and boy does it do its job, naturally! I couldn't be more pleased; this is the fastest I have ever seen my skin clear in 7+ years, with absolutely no harmful side effects. My skin is glowing rather than flaming, and ah! I could go on and on. Posted Image

Notanoutsider, what you say about sleep is true. Every morning when I wake up from a good sleep after my Tea Tree Oil treatments, I see that my body has done its job with healing my acne and toning down the inflammation. I am a believer that the more one turns to natural remedies, the happier the body will be. And for me, I'm so glad its proven to be true!
