I'm a 21 year old caucasian male. I have moderate/severe acne on my back, chest, and neck. Practically no blackheads at all, just a scattering of oversized whiteheads and a few nodules/cyst-like growths. I've had this condition since I was 15 years old, and have been through countless regimens and treatments, all fruitless. I've tried benzoyl, sal. acid, alpha hydroxy, all imaginable combinations of the three. I've tried topical prescriptions. I've been washing my body with borax, and that doesn't help. I've tried showering thrice a day for weeks. I've tried not showering for a week just to see what happened (more pimples appeared but surprisingly the redness of it all went down a lot). I've had periods of up to three months where my chest would all but clear up, only to return. But my back has never done so much. At this point my back and chest are starting to look like big scars.

Thinking this is an internal chemical problem, I decided a few months ago to stop eating red meat completely. I also quit smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol, eating anything deep fried, and I began working out regularly. So now I've been living healthy as can be for months and have noticed NO change. It's quite frustrating to be getting muscles for the first time, but not wanting to take my shirt off. I've all but given up on anything that even resembles a typical acne medication. I refuse outright to take ANY pills that may have adverse side effects. Could it be folliculitis? I've done my fair share of googling and it really just seems like each acne case is unique. Some people discover things that work for them, but I have not. In fact, I haven't tried anything that even began to show results. I haven't tried sea salt bathing (my bath tub is not of a realistic size), and there are a few strange folk remedies that I haven't tried for lack of ingredients. I hear yoga helps, and I wish that was an option, but at the moment it is not a pursuit I can consider. It seems to me like there is simply some internal problem that is extremely stubborn and continues to unleash bacteria.

SOooo. Any suggestions?

Spirulina and chlorella. They're a food rather than a supplement, and are safe. Plus lots of people have said that they work. I noticed a difference with spirulina after not even a week, I currently take both. They have vitamin a, chromium, iron, b12, to mention a few. They also have lots of protein and a full spectrum of amino acids. As well they both contain chlorophyll. They gently detox your body too. Dandelion tea is great as well to gently detox your body.

I would recommend doing a mild detox, just eliminating sugars/salts. Take a multivitamin, vitamin c, spirulina, chlorella and drink herbal teas. That's exactly what I've been doing for the past month and have noticed a big difference. The spirulina seems to have made the biggest difference in the shortest amount of time though. My chest acne was the first thing to disappear on my detox, within the first week the amount was cut in half, my face acne has been a little more stubborn, although it's improved a lot.
