hello. basicly i've been using retin a for over several months now and while it has greatly reduced my pimples i find that sometimes when i get a pimple it turns black and then reduces in size very slowly. i find this very frustrating because it almost looks like i hav an acne scar but its a lump that i didnt even touch. i was wondering if this is normal and if anyone knew how to get rid of the problem. i am of african american descent.

It could be blood drying up within the blemish. Even an over the counter glycolic will do that to me! A couple of weeks ago, I had a bump on my cheekbone which had been there for months, and after using a glycolic face wash- it flattened out and turned black. It is now scabbing and flaking off. I notice that it is more likely to occur, too, if I use a washcloth and manually exfoliate. I think the pressure causes the pimple to rupture beneath the surface of the skin and the blood becomes visible.

experiencing this too. have a few healed pimples, they have gone from papules, then pustules, then flatten, then slowly from red to a very brownish red color. seems like a scar to me now, although the size has gone down significantly. it has been a few months already, losing hope that the marks will disappear.
