Well I was on bactrim for a little over a year and the results were great. I had 99% clear skin and was so happy. Then suddenly back in July its like it stopped working. I broke out really bad again and stayed like that for two months so I just stopped taking it as it wasn't helping. There was no change in my acne when I stopped taking it so i figured I had built up a resistance. Since then I have been on the regimen and it has helped a little(not as much as I hoped) but nowhere near as good as the bactrim did while it was working. So I was wondering is there any other oral prescription I could take besides accutane that might help? Thanks for any advice.
Bactrim Quit Working.

Cujo, was Bactrim the first antibiotic you were ever prescribed? Generally it's kind of the "big guns" derms seem to wait and use once other antibiotics don't work or stop working. I've been on Bactrim for 4 months and it's working pretty well, though I'm hoping to switch to something that's not an antibiotic in the near future. In your case, I'd recommend minocycline, doxycycline or erythromycin.
At this point, after taking antibiotics for so long, I kind of hate recommending them to others, but I know that when you're desperate, you're desperate. If you haven't already -- especially now, when you're not on any medication -- I'd put some time and effort into taking care of your body and what you put into it. I broke out horribly this past spring after getting off erythromycin and since then have become much more conscious of what I put into my body and what irritates it. For instance, I'm allergic to gluten, so that's out. And any excessive amount of sugar or dairy leaves me not only feeling sick but with an inflamed and slightly broken out face the next morning, so as much as I'd like to consume massive amounts of sweets, it's just not worth it anymore. I don't know... just something to think about. Good luck!
