So for the last two years I have been taking doxycycline twice a day 100 mg. Recently it appears that it has stopped working. I have read may places that after a while antibiotics make acne actually worse. Is this true? I have wanted to get off the pill for a while now but have also heard that once you stop taking it, your acne comes back worse. So should I stop taking it?

Finally, should I start taking a probiotic and if so what brand do you recommend.

I was on doxycycline for a while and I stopped taking it because i turned eighteen and my pedriatic clinic couldn't see me any more. I havent been to see a derm or doctor because I started school and havent found the time to but acne does come back. We are all different so it all depends. Just go look at my posts and see my pictures. :( I probably have the worst acne on ACNE.ORG

I took doxycycline for 18 months several years ago and it worked. However, I did find after a lot of research that long term antibiotic use had numerous disadvantages so I talked to my derm about going off of it. I really do recommend lowering your dosage little by little....taking a couple months to wean your dosage down. And also combat your changing system with probiotics. I recommend Threlac, I think it's called. It's what I took. If you do a google search you can find a lot of information about them. I do recommend that you go for a pricer versus inexpensive brand because live bacteria is the best to have. Remember with those that you have to keep them refrigerated.
