I'm on yasmin, have been for about two years now. I'm down to my last month's supply and no longer have health insurance (at least until I get moved to part-time at my new job, which I estimate will take awhile). I'm debating between hitting up planned parenthood for their generic kind of birth control (not a "designer" mini pill like yasmin either, has more hormones, etc.) or beginning to wean myself off it entirely. It's never made a difference in my skin, I use it strictly for its contraceptive benefits now which is why I'm torn. Messing with your hormones in the form of a prescription is no joke but neither are babies. Posted Image

If I were to begin the "weaning" process, I'd have to start soon as I only have a month's supply left (and several leftover pills of the lower dose you take during your period). Left to my own devices, I'd start cutting pills in 3/4ths then halves until I'm only taking the lower dose pills. Maybe I'd procure saw palmetto, dong quai, be more consistent with my GLA (evening primrose oil) or some kind of supplement to balance my hormones. Anyway, this is where you guys come in.

^Can this method of action have unforeseen problems on my part? I'm sure there are at least a few. Also I'm considering making an appointment at planned parenthood to discuss different methods with someone. Although the more I'm reading about nutrition the less I am trusting of doctors and would have no idea where to begin as far as questions/stating my concerns go. If anyone has experience with weaning themselves off a BCP or switching contraceptive methods because they're worried about the same things as me, responses, references or even PM's would be great.
