So back in March I was prescribed 100MG of Doxycycline to take twice a day, and up until July it was working great and my breakouts had seemed to go away. So ever since July my face has seemed to have gone back to how it was before I was on the medication, but I have still continued to take the medication since then.

So since it has seemed to have stopped doing it's job, would it be safe to quit taking the Doxy? Or could I possibly break out without it being in my system? But since it's no longer working, I'm not sure if me being afraid of breaking out is even logical, haha. I just figured I would try to ask before going through with it.

I took Doxycycline 100mg, 1 time a day from the end of September til July, I had amazing results with this drug. Absolutely no acne breakouts, pimples, nothing while it was working. It started losing it's effectiveness on me towards the end of July, but I continued taking it. I only got a few pimples here and there. After I ran out of my prescription I never got it re-filled because I knew it wasn't working anymore and I started Diane35.

After completely stopping Doxycycline my acne breakouts got so much worse. In the beginning, like I said, it was just a few pimples here and there and then it was more like 5-7 pimples here and there and big suckers too and it progressively got worse. The only issue is I do not know whether or not it was stopping Doxycycline that made my acne so horrible or if it the initial breakouts from starting Diane35.

Either way, no matter what if you stop taking this drug you will probably breakout unfortunately. It really does depend on the person. You might breakout a little, or a lot.

I've always had bad break breakouts any time I've stopped taking a drug. I guess in the end they just make the acne stronger, which is quite a sad thought as I don't seem to have any options other than to take antibiotics as I can't get Accutane.

I'm taking Doxy at the moment and, so far, it's doing well after two weeks. I'm guessing I'd probably be taking these kinds of things forever until, hopefully, the acne finally stops.

My doctor said I could do six months on, then three months off to give my body a break, then review it after that to see if I wanted to do another six month course or up the dosage, etc.. Maybe you could do the same; give your body a break and see if the acne does actually settle once your body has adjusted to not having the drug. If it calms down, perfect, If not, you could always see about going on it again or trying something else.

Suppose I should probably look into probiotics or something as I've never taken anything like that and I can't imagine all these meds have done my body much good over the years. Posted Image

Yep, Doxy was a little evil tease. Skin looked great on it, but BOOM, my skin got worse being off of it, I refer to acne/ pimples/zits, whatever ya wanna call em, but I refer to it as The Devils Disease Posted Image and I hate this Devils Disease. Not fun at all. It cost me money, and causes me frustration, depression, anxiety, anger and being 40 with acne, I kinda feel like this immature snot nosed puberty stricken 16 year old punk. I wouldnt mind being a 40 year old punk with nice skin, but no such luck. My irish luck is the bad irish luck.

Up until May I had been on Duac 5% b.p. (prescription gel) for about 1 and a half years, it was keeping my acne at bay. But in May I decided to ramp it up a bit and start Doxycycline 100mg once a day. I've been on it for almost 7 full months. Never missing a tablet. I've been doing the Regimen as well for about 2 months. But I am using 10% Benzoyl Peroxide.

I was just about to ask the same question, I am not 100% happy being on antibiotics so was going to come off, but at the same time I want good skin.

I guess it depends how far along you are personally with acne.. as everyone does at some stage 'grow out of it'

I was afraid of that, too, but I didn't have any problems going off Doxy. I took it way beyond the point of usefulness (two years) and eventually built up a resistance to it, so there was no reason to continue with the medication. That was eight years ago? I had relatively clear skin in all that time until recently.

I came off Doxy and remained relatively clear (i'd say a few minor pimples each month) for 6 months. I was on Differin though so that may have contributed. As far as I know, it's best to combine Doxy with a topical. The great thing about doxy was that I could see my skin trying to produce acne, but it was stopped in it's tracks everytime. Usually a micro zit appeared that went away in a day. I'm deducing that the anti-inflammatory effects were what helped me greatly. It took 2 months before it worked 100%, though.

After these 6 months my acne came back slowly, and eventually the deeper pimples returned. Enjoy your clear time, is all I can say!

I see nothing wrong with continuing this antibiotic. It is a good one and helps a lot to prevent a breakout. By the way how long are you using it?
