18 year old been struggling with acne past two years. Not as bad as many of the peoples here but still pretty bad, was fortunate to get a dermatologist willing to try accutane and finally picked up my first supply today. 40mg/day.
*NOW UP TO 60MG*

I'm about 170lbs, very unsure as to why it's only 30 days before i have to get a new prescription, but whatever.

Has anyone ever seen any results within the first 30 days or has it always been hellish?

Took my first pill tonight with my meal. Not going to be one of those people updating about every little spot or whitehead that pops up, but will rather check in every few days to describe which direction my skin is going in.

Thanks to everyone taking a look.

Hey there, I'm on 30mg a day but weigh a bit less than you so ratio-wise we're probably on similar doses.

So far I've been on Accutane for 36 days and my doctor says it already looks about 70% better than when my skin was at it worst. My friend has also been on accutane (she was on a higher dose-60mg) and she was completely clear by 2 month and just stayed on an extra month to make sure.

I didn't suffer an initial breakout, just the odd spot appeared now and then, but it was a 'normal teenage pimple' and not full of pus like they usually are. Mine wasn't hellish at all, but maybe I'm just lucky?

Hope all goes well for you!

Nice, hope i get as lucky as you with no IB.

Day two
Nothing so far, no NEW spots I have noticed overnight but I suppose that probably has nothing to do with a pill i took last night. I think I am noticing the dry lips symptom more and more today, will need to buy some chapstick.

Day 3
Woke up today, may be related to accutane or may not be, but woke up today and seemed a lot clearer than usual, probably just inflammation dying overnight but it was a pretty good feeling seeing your face go in a good direction rather than immediate IB. Dry lips not really a problem, face doesnt seem more dry than normal at all. going to make an apt tomorrow for about november 1st (few days before my prescription runs out)

thats pretty much it

Day 8

sorry havent posted in update in a while. skin has generally gone downhill, seems to be more rough, painful, actually probably experiencing the IB i've heard so much about, just painful cysts coming out of nowhere. Bleh, face feels awful. Not really noticing effects of dry skin or lips, my skin was normally pretty dry anyway so i guess i wouldnt notice it. so yeah, skin gone downhill

pics will be up soon, of day 1 and the present day

Day 10
Skin a lot worse than day 1 actually, have gotten multiple cysts, mainly around jawline but many on cheeks. Though for some reason, scarring/complexion looks a little better, despite the many newfound cysts from this breakout.

Day 20
Sorry haven't updated in a while. It's gotten much worse since day 10, especially all over my left cheek and jawline/chin. Not sure if i can take much more of this being a guy and having to go out every day w/ this massive massive breakout all over my face. Very hard to moisturize as the pain of some of the cysts just makes it too painful to moisturize, so bleh. Have another appointment in about a week or so, hoping to get an upped dosage if that will apparently make it go faster. Have gotten a few headaches and a nose bleed a couple days ago as part of the side effects, could also possibly have some joint pain related to it as well but can't be sure.

Scalp feels very irritated and dry too.

Meh, hopefully this will all turn around soon, this is getting me down pretty badly

I will post comparison pics on day 30, promise, if anyone cares.

Don't worry man, by the end of the month your skin should get better. I'm on the same dose as you and i'm on month two taking 80mg.

Yeah I get what you mean, my face was the worse on the 2nd week to 3rd week I think. It was so oily and overall skin tone was just bad. I luckly didn't get too much cysts on the side of my face.. But I did get s crap load of painful massive on my nose, it takes more than 2 weeks before it gave up... ugh.. haha. You can check out my log, since we're taking about the same dosage and weigh about the same. It should be linked somewhere on the bottom.

Hey man, just remember to never, never give up. If you never give up, you will never lose.

Don't stop believing in the medicine and keep your thoughts positive, it will get better.

Day 21
Cysts still here, found out today trying to put water on my face in the shower is a bad idea, extremely painful toward some parts of my face. Everything is still gross and moisturizing with all of this stuff here is still really difficult. Just got back in the gym, hopefully will help a bit in clearing up.

Day 23
Seems to be calming down slightly, still terrible though, skin slightly less dry and irritated some cysts still remain at the largest size they've been. Nose been extremely dry and hard to keep moisturized, though no bumps on it whatsoever (I havent had a pimple on my nose in over 16 months probably, and very rarely get anything on my forehead or chin) Cheeks still bad, very very curious how blocking the production of pimples is going to clear this up. Bleh, guess im a pessimist cause I don't really see myself having the same progress most others get.

Day 28

Day 32
Well, thought i might have been a little bit clear by now but no avail. Hearing all this stuff about people getting into depressive moods or "low points" , and didn't really think i experienced it or thought it applied to me, then i realized my entire life right now is a low point. meh.

Well, sorry a bit late on the pics but here's a month in. Has gotten terribly terribly worse. Going from moderate to severe is just awful to experience. Dunno if i can wait until the "4 month period" for it to turn around. Posted Image

Don't think about it that you have 4 more months ahead - Instead take the mindset: TODAY I'm gonna deal with my acne, live day by day and have fun even though your skin tries to make you feel like shit, overcome it!

once those bumps go down your skin will look great. I'm not an expert but they look kind of acne that will heal very well with very little/none scars, good luck! :)

Thanks for the post

It's just frustrating not knowing how much longer i am gonna wake up with my face being painful and looking like a swarm of extremely horny bees decided to have an orgy with my face, i could start improving around the corner or have to deal with 2-3 more months of school and other stuff looking like this. Derm said if i dont look any better in 3wks then he will up dosage to 60mg.

And how does it look like it will heal with little scars? If anything i think my acne is the kind that would leave lots of scars, no?
