I started taking spiro about three weeks ago and my face is a nightmare. Cystic pimples on chin, forehead everywhere. I take 50 mg a day and retin A at night. I was clear before going on it, and now this. The cysts are leaving deep scars too, and I haven't even popped them. One cyst goes away another pops up over night. I do not know what to do. Should I stop taking this pill? My face looks horrible, I was clear for a year straight on minoxycline but it left a stain on my lip, so my derm told me to stop taking it, now this spiro is scaring me. Help

I just went on spiro on Oct 24. It's now Nov 2nd and my face is covered in bumps under the skin and active acne everyone, some cystic and some just small pustules. When I went to the derm I had only a few hormonal bumps on the forehead and chin. She put me on 100mg of spiro and I look worse than I looked at 14 years old. Question: should I stop or should I continue? I don't even want to leave the house. Makeup cannot cover this mess.

I started on spiro (50mg per day) on October 20th. Yes, I'm having an initial breakout, but.... amazingly, the pimples are NOT lasting as long.

I'm 43 and have been truly suffering with bad hormonal, cystic acne for the last few years. It recently got so bad that I would cry daily, so upset at my face. I use Oxy Clinical's products and had been pretty happy with it, but I guess my hormones kicked into HIGH gear and the acne got really bad. So I finally went to the doctor and asked (aka - begged) for spiro. The doctor didn't even realize it could be used for female hormonal acne!

I'd usually get these big, red, painful cystic pimples on my cheeks and jawline that would last almost 2 weeks and leave big, dark pigmented areas. On my bad days, I'd have 6-8 large, red embarrassing pimples. After starting spiro, I get pimples, but they are no where near as large and they only last about 2-3 days!

I'm waiting for the spiro to start working on my oily skin. I still have to blot with the Clear and Clear blotting papers, but that's ok. What IS starting to dry out is the skin on the top of my hands, but lotion helps with that.

Also... I haven't experienced too many side effects from the spiro, but I make sure I take the pills with food and drink lots of water every day. Yes, I do pee a little more, but I have a bladder the size of a pea so I'm constantly having to go to the bathroom. :)

Unless you're having terrible side effects, stick with the spiro!! Keep up with your regular skin care routine, tho.

I woke up this morning with some hope (10 days after starting 100mg/day) . I have alot of little bumps under my skin, but all the large, really red pimples have started lighten. My face was so angry for the past 10 days (red, cystic, and generally irritated). I'm 44 and have a mild/moderate case of hormonal acne. I went from "mild" to severe the day I popped the first 100mg. Anyway, I'm keeping a diary just to see how long it takes for the larger pimples to heal. I had 4 very large, completely infected pimple removed by an astetician 2 days ago (they are complete gone and healing now). I had a pimple under the skin last night and it's now almost gone and never came to the surface. So I'm powering through. I'm not going to stop the spiro. Last night I swore I was gonna stop, but today I had a change of heart. Symptoms: period 9 days after the last, some breakthrough bleeding, but that's all. I'm also on the "acne diet" and that seems to help alot. Thank god for this website, or I would be in a servere depression right nowPosted Image

Update. Just went to my family doctor. She put me on 500mg of Erythromycin 2x daily for 10 days. The initial breakout of Spiro, plus the combination of using the olay rotating facial cleansing brush, caused a bad case of acne mechanica (when you cause friction to the hair follicle). So my warning is don't use any retinoids/scrubs or brushes a couple of weeks before you start spiro. And start the week after your period when your estrogen levels are good. Now I have to deal with the massive clean-up of acne scars from this event. Not even sure where to start. But for now......purpose cleanser 2x daily and cetaphil moisturizer only.

Ok......I'm done...........stopping Spiro. 3 new large pimples that are very red and it looks like the small white heads are spreading to my chest (I hardly ever breakout on my chest). This was an experiment that went terribly wrong. I'm covered in red marks and acne everywhere and tons of small clogged blackheads. I feel like a fool. I went to the derm to help my small, albeit frustrating, hormonal breakouts, now I'm not fit to leave the house. Makeup does not even work. This really sucks. Thank good I started the "acne diet" a few weeks ago. Posted Image

I stopped the spiro 30 days ago, thank god all cysts stopped forming. I am finally clear, I would not recommend this drug to ANYONE its horrendous. Now I am dealing with all the scars and dark marks left from breaking out from this horrid drug. This is the most toxic drug in the world, and very pissed off I listened to my derm and started taking it. Now I can only hope this clear patch keeps going. I never in my whole life broke out more horribly then I did when I was ON the spiro.
