My derm prescribed Bactrim DS after I had tried Doxy (made me throw up, so I finished the prescribed amount and stopped; it didn't help my acne anyway) and Azithromycin (helped at the beginning but not so much anymore). I used Differin .3% gel (too harsh) and Tazorac, but now I'm using Differin .1% gel and BenzaClin. I don't get the inflamed cystic pimples much (maybe only one or two a month around my period), but I have a lot of blackheads, whiteheads, and large pores. Plus little bumps on my cheeks. It's mostly that my skin is uneven, and nothing else has worked for me. I've heard about the great things Bactrim does for your skin, but I've also researched the horrible side effects. My derm didn't do any blood tests or anything, just asked if I was allergic to anything and told me to see him again in 2 months. Should I take it, or just live with my current skin and not risk it?
I have oily skin btw.
Is Bactrim DS worth it?

Bactrim is DEFINITELY worth it. It completely cleared my awful skin. It didn't really do much for oil, but no antibiotic will help with that. Also, I never had any adverse side effects on it (I was on it for four years), and it definitely never made my skin worse. I say do it! I hope it will work as great for you as it did for me.

Thanks for replying; I'm glad you had such a good experience! I actually went off Bactrim recently b/c I had a drug rash from it, but it did clear my skin some. I have a suspicion that it probably would have cleared my skin all the way if I had used it for the full 2 months, but whatever.
