I've been taking 10g a day of vitamin B5 for about a week and a half (10 days to be exact) in the last few days my acne has got a of worse and today it's incredibly bad I have a few cystic bumps, loads of whiteheads and hundreds of little bumps which I don't think have decided what they are yet.
This is way worse than even my normal monthly hormonal break out, it's as bad as things were in the beginning before I found treatments which sort of worked for me.
From the research I have done I suspect this to be an initial breakout and from what I've read I can't expect to be seeing much of an improvement until about two weeks in.
My question is does that fact that I am having the breakout mean that the treatment is working? I would hate to go through all this to find it doesn't work anyway so I was just curious to see if this was a good sign.

Initial Breakout means it's working?

You are taking way to much of B5. You should start at maybe 1g then every day maybe add another 0.5g. So really you should add another pill if you have 500mg size pills. Starting at 10g could have bad side effects. So maybe lower your dosage a little to about 5 or 6 grams, then when you see improvement start to increase the amount you take to 10g. Do this very SLOWLY. If not you could be in what state you are now. I hope this helps!

I would imagine it is an IB, but I would also imagine that it shouldn't last too long. So maybe give it another week or so, and if no sign of improvements have a rethink.

Recommendations vary according to your age and metabolic needs. The AI for infants and children ranges from 1.7 to 4 mg daily, while adults should get 5 mg daily. Pregnant and lactating women of any age should consume 6 to 7 mg daily.
So the normal intake for you would be 5mg... and you're taking 10,000mg per day... that's a massive overdose of B5, seriously massive...
It is worth noting however that some B vitamins are manufactured by gut biota. If your megadosing confused your system enough, it may have affected the microbe balance in your gut which could then result in vitamin deprivation.
As always, just be careful with vitamin supplements... while i've never actually seen a case of B5 toxicity, it doesn't mean it can't happen...
