Hi,

I was just wondering whether anyone here can tell me what these are on my nose. The doctor said they're not blackheads and wouldn't refer me to a skin specialist. I've had these since I was like 13, and I can't even face looking at people. I hate people being close to me and turn my back. I feel so insecure about them sad.gif. The rest of my skin and body is perfectly fine, it's just my nose.

I'm now 20, and I've tried all the products out to buy off the shelf.

Could you please tell me what these are?

Thank you very very very much. I want these gone forever sad.gif, it's making me depressed.

Don't hijack people's threads. If he has a question about what's on his nose, then let him ask it. If you have nothing nice to say, then don't say anything at all. Seriously, Time. Sometimes it gets out of hand. It's not like he posted this picture in the 'Severe acne' thread. This thread is 'blackheads and non-inflamed acne'.

FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON THIS FORUM:

They look like sebacious filaments, you can't get rid of them, and almost everyone has them!

Ask another doctor, i'm sure they are indeed blackheads/sebaceous filaments/clogged pores.

I'm generally the guy around these parts to give the bad news, someone else may give you a more fairy tale like reply.

-These won't go away.
-There's countless ways to make it worse, and increase the chances of it not going away.
-Even if they go away as you age, the pore size may not shrink to whatever you consider normal.

On the plus side, it doesn't look like you have made things worse yet, which I must honestly clap for eusa_clap.gif

Research these things and apply your own wise opinion or talk to a doctor about these options.

Chemical Products you should inquire about:
AHA, BHA (Mandelic Acid, Paula's Choice), Differin

Research ways to successfully decrease pore size, deal with clogged pores, don't expect any quick answers, may be close to impossible to find, I haven't found it, but keep looking, look into natural masks. Hey maybe you can call up Tyra Banks .. or some kind of face model. Maybe they have an answer for you.

What not to do:
-Extract them with nails, fingers, scrubbing, rough cloth, rough materials.
-use drying cleansers

Maybe you can wear man makeup

What will happen if you do nothing: (just my prediction) - they will go away by themselves, but the pores will still look big like they do now but empty. In 10 years maybe..?

Whatever you try, Make sure it doesn't make it worse.

and.. Callum, everyone has sebum, but not everyone has sebaceous clogged pores/ blackheads.. etc. Your too young to be throwing around your opinion so carelessly. Some of us do not 'prefer to be ignorant' and act like we know things. I live in the city, see new people everyday and I can tell you most people have normal unclogged pores.

so.. Niceguy, just ignore callum.

I'm just going by what I read on here, please don't patronize me. I said almost everyone, which is what I've heard. If I'm wrong then correct me in a manner that isn't demeaning. I'd also rather you didn't quote me on things from a completely different topic, me preferring ignorance and wanting to explore my own happiness cannot be compared to acting like I know things. I don't prefer to be ignorant in every subject, obviously. You're older than me, not better than me.

P.S. Unless you examine every person's nose 1cm away from their face then you can't use seeing new people everyday as a basis to your opinion.

Thank you for the replies.

Yes I am worried about them. Since they are quite noticable, especially in direct sunlight. I hate having to hide away from people. I know people don't care about them, as I do not care about what's on other peoples faces. But it still isn't a nice thing to know you have and makes me feel down all the time sad.gif. I've always bathed every day, and have used the same routine for 2-3 years now.

I was annoyed when the Doctor said that he won't refer me as it's pointless. I know of a very good Doctor who has always helped me with problems, I shall try find when she's free.

Thank you for the answers also, and sorry to cause trouble on the forum, that was not my intention.

@Wangod, can you get these products from stores, i.e Boots?

Thanks guys!

Which of the list should I get? What would the benefits be of each one?

Sorry for the questions, I'm sure it's been repeated thousands of times.

Thank you very much Wangod.

It was probably me that posted that lol.

And you are pretty much right: most adults (especially men) have sebaceous filaments, usually on the nose. They are not clogged pores.

OP, the reason your derm would not refer you is that sebaceous filaments are just part of your natural skin function and are difficult to eliminate. I believe one has to drastically alter the production of sebum to eliminate them. This would usually involve Accutane.

You will get used to them as you age lol. I can remember freaking out when I first noticed them too! Almost every adult I've seen up close and without makeup has them (it's just a matter of looking close enough).

You can use products to minimize their appearance. A prescription retinoid like Differin or Tretinoin would help. I also like BHA. But neither treatment will eliminate the sebaceous filaments.
