Hi everyone,
This is my first post on this forum. smile.gif
I'm 22 and have never been on hormonal BC before. My gyn gave me Beyaz for PMDD about a week ago. She said to call her if I have any problems and she'll take me off it.

Positive side effects:
- Increased my poor appetite (I'm underweight so this is actually good for me)
- I feel calmer than usual. (I usually feel hypomanic after my period, until my mood starts to drop 1.5 weeks before my next period. This is a BIG positive side effect and I hope it lasts the whole month.)

Negative side effects:
- I feel fatigued a lot of the time, to the point that my muscles ache from it.
- Acne has gotten slightly worse this past week - what should I expect?
- Thirsty a lot - then wake up desperately needing to go
- low libido
- I felt some pains in my legs, like the hour after I take it, but they go away after a while. Should I worry about blood clots, at my age, or am I being ridiculous?

There's so little on the internet about this - thank you so much for your responses!

Yes, you need to talk with your doctor about the symptoms you're experiencing and decide with her if they're worth the potential benefits (reduced PMDD). smile.gif Report both the positive and negative.

Thank you. The conclusion is to continue as long as the side effects are tolerable, and get a blood test at the end of the month.

The side effect of blood clots is much more likely if you are showing symptoms of mild hyperkalemia, so I'm making an effort to reduce my potassium intake, and this does seem to lessen the side effects, especially the nausea. (it's only been one day though)

Anyone else on this medication? Would you please share your experience, what you had to look out for, how long it took your body to adjust?
THanks!

Is this your experience?

Update: I'm doing much better 2 weeks in.
I have been hungry a lot and more tired than usual. It really calms my swinging moods - maybe I am not used to feeling normal! Usually I'm hypomanic part of the month and depressed part of the month, with a few days in between. Since starting it, I haven't had any major mood swings and went through one crisis quite calmly. I used to enjoy the hypomanic part of the month, but I could definitely do without it if it means no depression!

I do feel I am gaining weight, which for me is positive as I am very undernourished, but it's weird not seeing myself as super skinny any more. I'm trying to ignore that and focus on eating.

One negative: My acne is a LOT worse and my usual regimen is not working. If this does not improve by next month I will consider going off this pill.

So all in all, so far so good. Hoping the good will outweigh the bad.

Update as I finished my first pack:

The Good:
1. Felt calm all month and was a nicer person than usual. No PMDD!!!
2. Gained 5 lbs! I hope to gain another 10 or so. After being severely underweight for years it is amazing to feel hungry and actually want to eat, and that it stays on me. + 2 bra sizes (to 34C).
3. I started swimming twice a week and actually have the strength to do it (I used to wake up hypoglycemic the next day, and never exercised.)

The Bad:
1. Acne was pretty bad all month. If it doesn't improve after next month, I may consider stopping this pill.
2. Felt very slow, sluggish, and hungry the first two weeks. As I gained weight, though, this decreased and by the end of the month I was used to eating three meals a day plus snacks.
3. Slept poorly the first few weeks, but by the fourth week this also seemed to settle.

The Indifferent:
1. Canker sore outbreak the last day of the month. I usually get these before my period so can't blame the Beyaz for it. However, I still haven't got my period (3 days off now.)
2. After going off it I lost my appetite again. sad.gif
3. Somewhat lowered libido. Didn't really bother me.

I hope this helps someone else taking it!

Every day during the first two weeks, I considered stopping because I felt so tired and hungry, I couldn't decide whether I wanted to sleep or eat first. smile.gif It could be this was intensified due to my very low body fat - I can imagine this making others very unhappy. Also, that's usually my happy hypomanic part of the month where I get stuff done, and nothing got done.

By the third week, I realized I had gained weight, I actually wanted to exercise and was used to preparing lunch and dinner, which previously I would eat little of as I was rarely hungry. I was also thrilled not to be getting sadder and crankier every day. Three days off it, I'm already feeling quite irritable and wish I could take it again (but want to get my period first.)

I just hope it continues to work well!

I'm so glad it's working so well for you! It's great to hear that you're feeling stabilized on this med. *claps* Thanks for the update, I'm sure it helps others who are considering it for PMDD.

I have been on many different bc. I started beyaz 11 months ago. In the first two weeks I lost water weight because the progesterone is a mild diruetic. And my skin got more oily when I started it. I decided to stick it out. About 5 months in I started to gain weight because my appetite was increased due to the estrogen. I know it sounds strange but I am gaining weight but loosing water weight ( my face and breast is
slimmer). I like gaining weight cuz I'm naturally thin anyway. Also around the 5th month I notices my oil production had decreased a little but not much. Over the next 6 months I noticed my oil decreasing with every month. Now I think I have normal skin. It takes time for hormones to regulated and when that happens ur skin will improve and side effects will go away. But it takes sooo long for ur body to get uses to these pills.

I've been on Beyaz 9 months and have had no problems.

People flock to media scares and start regurgitating quotes from commercials, without understanding what they are talking about.

It's good for some people and bad for others. Trust your medical professionals and be smart, don't smoke and take them correctly. (On time.)
