So I'm a 17 year old girl and I had beautiful clear skin up until about 8 or so months ago. I used to be able to do whatever I want and leave my make up on as long as I wanted without any worries that my skin would break out. Now my skin is constantly containing pimples. It's only on my face (so nowhere on my body). I also have a horrible bad habit of picking at any kind of pimple because I guess I believe that I want whatever shouldn't be in my skin gone. Nearly all the time I only cause myself more problems by picking. I was recently away at cheer camp for 4 days and I pretty much didn't pick at all because I was around other people all the time and at night when all of my make up was off. I noticed I got a few clogged pores but knew I couldn't risk picking at them. My skin seemed clear for the most part and I wasn't very embarrassed to go around our cabin without make up on. As soon as I got home, I picked at what seemed like the largest one. Nothing really came out and I ended up just damaging my skin. (If anyone knows what I'm talking about it's like a reddish brownish bruise/mark around where all the picking took place.) And this morning I picked at another little clogged pore, but nothing was relieved. I have a derm appointment in 2 days, so I'm trying to leave everything alone so they can possibly prescribe me something else for the acne they see and not the marks and scabs. I don't really think I have acne. It's basically just severly clogged pores. Most of the time the skin won't even be red, maybe just a small raised bump with possibly a little pus inside. I typically end up doing the majority of the picking at night in the bathroom mirror right before I go to shower, or in the morning right after I wake up. I know that if I didn't pick, my skin would probably clear up faster, but i just hate knowing that there's stuff inside my skin that shouldn't be there. At my last derm appt. I was prescribed spironolactone and that cleared up my hormonal cystic acne I would get on my chin. Now I basically get mild break outs on my cheeks and forehead, but I pick away at them constantly. I don't use any topical treatments because they seem to only make everything worse. What can anyone advise me to do, or other oral treatments that will definitely work?

Well since you wrote on mine, I think I might be able to offer something to you too.
I have the exact same problem and so does my roommate. It got to the point where I almost put a sign on my mirror that says DON'T PICK! I have this need to get the crap out like you said, but I know it'll make it worse. There will be the ones that nothing comes out and I end up breaking the skin and I am left with an infected scab that looks so gross. I look like have lepracy. You'd think I would have learned. But SOMETIMES the picking would pay off and the zit would ooze and go away. So I kept doing it. FInally like a week ago, I realized it's not worth the risk. My face is nicely scared now. I only squeeze when it's very very obvious that stuff will come out, and if nothing does when I give a good amount of pressure I stop before I do damage.

I did find this out: If you do find that you've damaged your skin and have a scab like formation on your face, Neosporin helps. Don't put a lot on, just over the spot and sleep with it on or when you're alone. Don't touch either. It helped me with the scaring and healed the spot faster. The ones I put this one kept opening back up and bleeding and this got them to finally heal.
I hope this helps a little. If not I'm sorry, but really if you find yourself picking just walk away from the mirror.

Okay thank you so much. I'm just only trying to pick at now what I know will go away. Not the ones that I know I might have to sqqueeze the crap out of.
