Hey guys, I just wanted to share my with experiences acne over the years. Hopefully, I can help someone currently struggling with this annoying illness. I know how devastating this can be for one's self-esteem. As an adult(25 year old male), I currently have mild acne and I've learned to control it. However, I have struggled with acne since I was 13. I've had different kinds of acne over the years but the worst kind I've had is cystic acne which was painful and caused horrible scars that took months to go away. The kinds of acne changed but one thing that remained constant was that it was always tied to my diet.

Note that is not from a very technical perspective nor is it well written. I don't often know why things work the way the do.

Things that worked:

1. Controlling your diet is extremely important!! DO NOT LISTEN TO DOCTORS WHO TELL YOU THAT DIET HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR ACNE. For me, it was extremely important to eliminate sugars from my diet. At one point, I only drank water and wouldn't even touch ketchup. The key here is to know yourself. Try an figure what foods aggravate your acne. I also had trouble with strawberries and milk. Both of these would cause cystic acne on my cheeks. Also, I cannot emphasize this enough, but you have to drink LOTS OF WATER. Right now, I drink about 5-6 bottles of water a day. The only inconvenience is that you will be going to the restroom a lot.

2. Omega 3 fish oil-for a while these worked unbelievably well for me for a while. I was able to eat whatever I wanted with few or no breakouts.

3. SLEEP- get lots of sleep! make sure you get at least 7 hours a night. I often get breakouts when I can't get a lot of sleep.

4. CLYNDAMAICIN PHOSPHATE - For me, this was the miracle drug. I've been using this on and off for a couple years and it's all but eliminated my cystic acne. I used to get those nasty ones on my nose every so often but since I started using this they have almost completely disappeared.

5. Laxatives

6. Wash your face twice a day

Things that didn't really work:

1. Proactive

2. Benyzol Peroxide

3. over the counter medications such as Clearasil and Neutrogena

Things to watch out for:

1. hair products-if you can, avoid hair sprays and gels

2. moisturizers-make sure the suncreen you use is non-comedegenic(sp?). I found that a lot of times these would block my pores and cause break outs.

3. Sugary foods(soda, chocolates, cookies, etc)

4. Touching your face. Avoid doing this by all means necessary. I know it's hard(I still do it at times)

5. Certain vitamin supplements- a lot of vitamins give me hives. I can't pinpoint what exactly in them causes this.

Right now, I'm not using any medications but I always keep some clyndamaicin on hand for the occasional pimple. I pretty much eat whatever I want these days but I do so in moderation and whatever I do I drink LOTS of water. I will still get the occasional breakout, but with the things I've mentioned above, I've been able to control it.

Hope that you found this helpful.

I think this worked because it helps your body to get rid of toxins. I didn't do it often. Maybe a couple times a year but I did notice results.

Don't really care where it goes. Just sharing what I think might be of help.
