i have currently been on spiro for one week and i have already seen a diffrence in my oil production. it really seems like it has decreased

im 100 pounds and am on 25mg spiro twice a day

im hoping if im seeing this improvement so fast in my oil that i will soon seen a reduction in the hormonal acne

anyone with a similar experience? how fast did it work for you?

how oily was your skin before the spiro? I have oily skin and acne so I'm thinking about trying a horomonal treatment.

Good news in the future for oilies. I'm 57 and still oily and have to use blotting sheets. But I don't break out much anymore and I have no wrinkles smile.gif Oh and if you are oily and have noticed oil reduction, I think this bodes well for good results. Just be patient. It usually is a slow acting drug. But it's awesome for most women.

Spiro is awesome! It is the best thing for hormonal acne. It is an anti-androgen medication, so it limits the oil production in your skin and slows hair growth as well. It has helped me out tremendously. Like Boston said, it can take a few months before you notice a big difference in your skin.

thats what im hoping cause i know my acne is purely hormonal since my jawline is the only area where i have issues and i only usually ever breakout around my period. i read ur log and u said spiro stopped working for you,i was wondering if u were on birthcontrol while using it?

Oh, sorry, I should go back and edit that. Spiro actually didn't stop working for me. I just didn't give it enough time to work. I was getting impatient since my derm kept prescribing me antibiotics when I really just wanted Accutane. Actually, birth control and Spiro are the best combination. I take birth control right now along with Spiro and Vitamin D. My skin has been clear for a long time now. I am very satisfied.

Hi! I am genetically male and I'm taking spiro for reasons other than my skin. I've been taking it for about two weeks. I did get a tiny initial breakout, but I'm suffering from zero additional side effects (not even increased urination?) and literally yesterday I noticed my skin is half as oily. As in, the day before, my makeup would run, and yesterday I fell asleep in my face and woke up to perfect foundation. I'm shocked. And ecstatic. I'm taking 50 mg twice a day. My doctor wants me on 200 total soon but I may stick with this dose.

yeah iv been on it for ten days and thats what iv noticed so far im hoping it works pretty quickly {although i know it is highly unlikely} because my body usually responds pretty fast to anything i am taking internally. i cant tell if i had an ib or not because i was on my period from a sucky birthcontrol but im 100 pounds taking 25mgs twice a day and have no intention on increasing my dosage so it will definatly be interesting how fast it works....

I've been on Spiro for 10.5 weeks. I took 100mg for the first 8 and then upped it myself to 150mg for the last 2.5.

I noticed my very oily skin had dried out a lot almost immediately. In fact I had to change my entire skincare routine to accommodate it.

I mostly stopped getting cysts right away, although I would still get the occasional one and still got a lot of other acne. It seemed to be slowly perhaps but I couldn't really tell.

After 8 weeks without seeing that much improvement and still feeling like I had congested skin I upped my own dosage. I wouldn't recommend doing this typically, but I felt that it was safe as I had experienced no side effects at 100mg and I know many people safely take as much as 250mg.

My skin improved almost immediately. It was as if it was trying to get there and just needed one last little boost. For the past 2 weeks I have mostly just been patiently waiting for my red marks to fade and am very happy with the texture of my skin. Not oily at all anymore and not dry either. Perfect. And for the first time in forever I can say that I have no active acne breakouts.

I think that my hair is less oily too. It used to be that I couldn't wash my hair in the morning and still wear it down at night. Now I seem to be able to get more mileage.

So basically spiro should really reduce oil production but the acne fighting results might take longer to obtain and you might need to play around with the dosage.

thats awesome that you got such good results from upping ur dosage, i plan to be on spiro longterm so im gonna try and be really strict about only staying on 50 mgs a day.i used to be breaking out in cysts from my nasty birthcontrol and now there all healing and im not having any new breakouts, i dont know if this is attriuted to the fact that i just started my old birthcontrol agian that worked for me before or if spiros already kicking in but either way im pretty happy that whatever it is is working lol
