Hey guys...
So, my doctor put me on spironolactone at 25mg a day for hormonal acne. I've been poking around the forums, and from what I can see, 25mg seems like a pretty low dose. I've only been on it for five days, but I haven't noticed any difference. I'm not frequenting the bathroom any more than usual, which is why I think it might be too low a dosage.
Anybody have any advice? I'll go to my GP as soon as I can, but he told me I'd hate him because I'd have to pee every five minutes, and despite still drinking a lot of fluids, everything seems normal. I don't want to be bunged on a medication that isn't going to do anything.
Spironolactone at 25mg.

i would highly recommend you up your dose to atleast 50 mg. spiro is only effective for acne in dosages of 100 mg and up, but i think 50 mg can be just as good. bump up to 50, and after 4 months if you see no change ask to bump to 100. hope this helps.

25mg is a good start. The average dosage is 50 to 100mg but plenty of people see results with 25mg. in fact there are probably a lot people who would do just fine on 25mg but they were started on 50 mg. In any case I would try that for a couple of months and see what happens.

Hi I've been on 100 for 6 months. I'm clear today. Honestly, I never had that side effect. My trips to the bathroom didn't change at all....which I find odd, but oh well.
Although I was upped for 1 month to 150, but I kept getting my period/spotting mostly, so they lowered my dosage back to 100. Right now i'm doing great, no side effects at all.

Well G flower its a start hope it works for ya but give it several months.
From what I hear, in general takes at least 2 months for spiro to truly be noticable with skin and hair. (A bonus side effect is less hair growth so you dont have to shave as often
Ive been taking it for several weeks (the 50 mg dose) and I am Ok so far. I mean my skin is going thru a good period lately, true, but it does seem smoother and if I would get less body hair Id be pretty happy, I hate shaving my legs its such a big waste of time.
No, never noticed increased urination at all. And I am one of those people who cant ever sit thru a movie without peeing at least once haha.
I think it depends on your body weight your dose for me I am around 5'5 and 138 lbs.

i went to the dermatologist today and she told me that spironolactone does nothing at 50 mg. she said she even prescribes 200 mg for people who want to take it for acne. my endocrinologist also said the same thing. but if you are infact experiencing good results on 25 or 50, then continue with that dosage. i am on my 5th month of spiro 100 mg and i am totally clear. except i urinate constantly and am dehydrated no matter how much water i consume. it's hard but owell. best of luck to you guys!
