To give readers a better understanding, I am a 16 year old male and turn 17 on July 30th. On March 15, 2010, I regretfully used an at home glycolic acid peel. I left it on for 5 minutes, as reccomended, and sat through the intense pain. Once I was done, I washed my face with water and dryed. Little did I know, a horrific surprise was waiting for me in the morning. Now before I move on, I should inform readers that at the time I was taking several acne medications: Duac, Retinae, Cetaphil for normal to oily skin, Theraplex lotion, and Solodyn 60mg. The next morning, I wake up and my face is completely enflamed(red) and irritated from the acid peel, not to mention the scabs all over my face. I called my dermatologist's office and a nurse told me to not use the Retinae for a couple days, which didn't help. Two days after the acid peel, my face was looking worse than it did the first morning, so I drive down to my dermatologist for an emergency visit. It turned out that the acid peel damaged my face so severe, it was the equilalent to a second degreee burn. After I left the office, I went to pick up my Biafine burn lotion to heal whats left of my face. I used that for 2 and a half weeks and then continued with my regular acne medications once all the scabs and redness seemed to fade. For six months I didn't use sun tan lotion, bringing me to September 15, 2010. In those months, my face was very red and I got a lot of embarassing questions and comments on why it was so, not to mention the unbearable stinging from my medications. The month of September, I returned to the office for a follow up on my face, which still was really red. The doctor switched me off of Solodyn and Retinae and gave me Doryx 150mg and Epiduo and told me to start wearing sun tan lotion or my skin would suffer severe effects in the long run. Since that day, I haven't gone once without wearing sun tan lotion. My face is extremely sensitive to certain kinds of sun tan lotion, so I use La-Roche Posae 50 SPF with a tint to it so I can blend the color of my face. Four months ago, I stopped using Theraplex lotion and started using something called Bio Cream after my doctor ensured it was nourish my skin and heal it. Today, my doctor has me on Aczone, Epiduo, Bio Cream, Cetaphil for normal to oily skin and for dry skin, and Doryx 150mg. After almost a year and a half of heeling, my face ceases to show any major results. Where I used the acid peel on my face reveals a deep outline of redness. I had no idea this would all result from a little 5 minute acid peel to a year and a half later and my face still not healed. I went to see a new dermatologist today and ask him about my situation and he said there is absolutely nothing I can do about it and there isn't a gurantee that my skin will go back to normal. Please, I'm trying so hard to fix this and I don't want to lose hope, if someone could offer valuable advice on what to do next it would be greatly appreciated. I have attached two pictures of both sides of my face if that helps, the pictures shows pinkness all over my face, but not over the jaw line and not under my side burns.
