Hi all-
I just started on b5 and maca root powder about 5 days ago. I started with 5 grams of b5, planning to up to 10 grams tomorrow. I was only taking a small amount of the maca root powder (1/2 teaspoon once daily I think). I have been on the NuvaRing for about 5 months with VERY regular periods, and starting yesterday I have started heavy spotting or my period (and it's only mid-way through the ring cycle, so I'm not scheduled to start my period for another week and a half). I am concerned because my boyfriend and I use the ring as our only protection, and I am worried that these supplements have somehow made my birth control less effective (therefore the spotting), and we've had sex in the past few days. Does any one know if B5 or the Maca Root powder make BC less effective, or had any personal experience with this?
Thanks,
L

I take the maca root capsules with great success for the past two months however I am not on birth control so I can't comment from experience. Through my research however, I've found that maca root can disrupt your birth control and my cause more frequent cycles! It is not advised for women on birth control to take maca root although some have with no problems. Maca root helps the body to regulate horomone levels and birth control puts synthetic horomones in your body so I can see how you would not want to mix the two.

Im a male but ive come across quite a bit of reviews in the B5 review section of women saying that the b5 messed with thier cycle. Most of them were saying it was coming alot later then normal and up until taking b5 they never had any problems. I would try some google searches.
I took maca powder before and have read up on that too. Its meant to balance hormones but could possibly just make some of them out of balance, perhaps the ones that were fine to begin with

I decided to try maca about a month ago and within a couple of days I was spotting consistently. I take YAZ BC and am generally regular.
Since then I have ceased the maca (makes me super tired!) and am changing BC (but for diff reasons). When I stopped the maca the spotting went away.
