Right now I'm taking 4000IU of Vitamin D3 and 50mg of Zinc as well as a multivitamin a day. I'm thinking of adding Vitamin A but not sure how much I should be taking. I've heard that 10,000IU is the maximum dose to take but I've seen bottles of 25,000IU being sold in stores. Would 25,000IU be safe to take for a few months? I also have a few other questions;

- I heard that taking Vitamin A will interfere with Vitamin D; is this true?
- What's the max dose of Vitamin D3? (If I can safely take a higher dose I'd like to)
- Will Vitamin A help with reducing oil?

i have never been able to take vitamin any higher then the rda without some effects feeling weird the next day etc, 25 mg of zinc in a supplement is where my body says enough as well, the rda is 15mg, the higher you go the more dangerous.

max dose might be 10000 iu, according to research and depending on teh person weight etc, absorption ability. you probably do not need anymore then 500 iu or so, you will have to experiment and see how you respond that the only way to know for sure. but the 10000 iu guideline is pretty rock solid, dont exceed that long term.

If you are taking a multivit...Then I would check the back to see how many I.U.'s are in the multivit for Vit D, Zinc and if you decide to take Vit A. I wouldn't exceed 10,000's IU of the Vit A. Most MultiVit have Vit A in them. Vit A can be toxic.

Depending where you region you live in, I take 1000 IU of Vit D in the summer and 2000IU in the winter. (I use to take more, but was deficient) I don't think you would need more then that, well it is hard to overdose on Vit D.

Yes, Vit A and Vit D compete. I have posted something regarding it in the accutane posts not long ago.

As for Vit A making less oil, I guess in mega doses, but again that can be toxic, there are some stories on here regarding that.

Good Luck

I've only been on it for a few weeks but the first 2 weeks I wasn't breaking out and I didn't get any new pimples and I usually get a few new ones once a week along with terrible cysts. This week I started breaking out, even in places I hadn't before but I noticed that pimples aren't lasting as long as they usually do. I'm not sure if the breakout is an IB before everything calms down or if the vitamin D3 and zinc aren't working. I'm just going to have to wait and see. confused.gif

My multivitamin has 7mg of zinc, 400IU of Vit D and 4000IU of Vit A. I definitely don't want to overdose on Vitamin A but I heard that it would take anywhere from 6 months to 2 years to overdose and it would have to be a high dose, much higher than 10,000IU. I'm going to continue to take 4000IU of Vitamin D3 for now because not only may it help my acne, it's also a great vitamin to be taking overall.

Do you happen to know what the equivalent of Accutane to Vitamin A is? I tried looking online but couldn't find anything. I don't ever plan on taking that much vitamin A, I don't think I'm even going to start on Vitamin A but I'm just curious.

Uhm, I know it is somewhere, I will search in the next day or two and send you a link on the equivalent of Accutane to Vit A. I would have to say that overdosing would depend on the indivudal and what there body can handle and how much.

It's better to get nutrients naturally. I firmly believe people that have acne and other skin issues, have them from gradually developed nutrient deficiencies

Look at this, I have this skin condition and acne. They both developed with puberty, where your body consumes far more energy and vitamins for growth, just like in pregnancy (where acne also develops) Then the conditions persist into adult years.

So, I'm not that into taking vitamins separately due to the risk of over dosing. I see a naturalpathic doctor and this is what she had me take: multi-vitamin for your gender/age, 1000 vitamin d (since we all need extra) calcium, (I'm female, so not sure if that would be for you) a probiotic twice a day and cod liver oil which is naturally high in vitamin a and d. I personally saw a difference when I took the cod liver oil, but I was taking a tablespoon twice a day for over a month before I could tell a difference.

I too agree with getting your vitamins from your food is best, but a multi-vitamin is like insurance. I used to believe that people like us with acne, could cure it with eating perfectly, but after 14 years of battling acne, I realize (and my dermatologist told me-many times) that that is not the case. Just do what you can and go from there.

Hope that helps! smile.gif
