I am 31 and still getting papules or cysts there and then. I'm not sure which one it is actually. I just read the acne.org article.. Might be a nodule, papule or cyst.

My skin has some acne scare from severe teenage acne (Accutane did not help much). But it does not look too bad anymore. Acceptable I would say. But right now, I am battling wiht a very large papule on my upper cheek.

Normally, you can tell if a deep papule seems to be coming out or if it is on the way down, right?
I mean, by the amount of pain you have when you touch the papule itself. Well, mine started coming out on thursday.

It was quite big on friday, with large amount of pain.
Saturday was still here even more pain, and
Sunday same but decreasing pain.
Today, monday, the pain is aggain slightly less, but still there!

How can it be??
It looks quite bad. And it stays there, right on my face, very red.
I have tried a bit of betadine, it did nothing. I think.
Now I just checked, it seems dried up when I put a dab of tee tree oil.... And there is a white center in the middle, but it's not "out" yet. Not like a pustule or something. It just seems to be in there. But white.

What's the best way to treat it you think? I need the swollen part to go back inside. Seriously it looks real bad to have this thing popping out, very red.

Tee tree oil again maybe?
How much should I put per day?

I had another one which came out to maturity on wednesday/thursday, and it is already flat and almost gone. Please help if you have experienced these huge pimples.....

im no stranger to these.

With me if it comes straight up with a head ill leave it be. But if its big and angry and not findings it own way out what i do is wait till it has the first signs of a head on it then kinda stretch the skin and poke the head part with a really fine pin carefully in the mirror. Then i press down either side of it with tissue or use a comedone extractor depending on size. Sometimes the whole lot comes out in one go, sometimes it seems to be deeper routed. You can feel a relief if its all come out if not then press it again until it does. Just dont squeeze it or it could get bigger. Once your done put bp on it or something and leave it alone.

Sounds like a cyst to me...hate them! Try taking some tylenol or bufferin for the pain. Bufferin or ibuprofen will help lower the inflammation. Put ice on it for 5 minutes at a time...this will also help it to go down. If the white part extends above the skin and is driving you crazy. then sterilize a needle and nick it. Apply a little pressure down on each side to see if the white will come out. Do not squeeze inward on the cyst...that will only push the white stuff into the skin and cause more swelling. If the white won't come out when you gently press down then leave it alone (very hard but important). This means it is a very deep cyst and you may want to see a derm to treat

thanks for the help.
i've put some ice for the last 4 days, but to no avail.
or maybe it's speedig up the process and i didn't notice.

right now, there seems to be some kind of small round hole in the cyst/papule. right in the center. so i guess part of the white stuff is out. but there seems to be a zone which still hurts, with maybe a "second head" coming. this is just crazy. two heads in one cyst? confused.gif

i just hope it goes flat asap.
this one will probably leave a mark.

my derm refused to take it out last friday. she said it's counterproductive to force them out. i will change derm, because i've been going around with this while she could have solved it.

so instead i tried fucidine (antibiotic, saturday, sunday, but just did not help much), then betadine (yesterday) and tea tree oil (lyesterday + ast night).

just hope i'm nearing the end of this one cause i can't go to work like that.

Hi Battle - As I just posted under a different thread here today, I'm having a similar issue to yours except that I have had this particular lesion for years now. It has been just a bump, and I never knew what it was until now...turns out that it's two large whiteheads right next to each other.

The reason I now know what that bump is, is because I have been taking Silicea 6X for about six weeks. I think this stuff could help you with your problem too. Silicea 6X is an inexpensive homeopathic remedy that forces things out of the body which don't belong there. I started seeing an overall improvement with my acne in a matter of just a few days. It has now forced this thing to the surface, so that I can finally see what's inside.

In my case, I'm going to see my dermatologist next week to see if he can extract it, because I have tried and can't.

Part of my acne has been these whitehead things, or whatever they are, but much smaller than the one I'm talking about. They are like small hard plugs, and when they come out (which they don't always), they are perfectly round, hard little things. But now the Silicea 6X has forced all of them out now, I believe.

In case you are unacquainted with homeopathic remedies, you should not exceed the recommended doseage or it's counterproductive. Also, anyone with implants (like breast implants) should not use Silicea 6X because of its action to force foreign things out of the body.

Good luck!

Try putting a hot compress on it a wash cloth with hot water a few times a day it may help bring it to a head just be careful when you pop it if you do. Its worth a try. Do you have a derm you can go to at all?Maybe you can get it injected with Cortisone from the derm it will be gone in about 3 or 4 days or so.I know how you feel i one on my face in the same place.try the hot compress.good luck

Dab a drop of undiluted 100 %Tea Tree Oil directly on it as a spot treatment, it'll dry out in no time. As regular preventative measure, use diluted Tea Tree Oil all over face, 5-20% solution, morning and night.

Hi Battle --- sounds like you could have a cyst but from how it is progressing I'd say it's just a really inflammed pustule with a deep plug remaining inside that is slowly making its way out. The upper part of the plug which may have been softer has fallen or dissolved off leaving the hole. The rest of the plug is slowly making its way to the surface. It may be a really long or big plug which accounts for the continued swelling. These can be awful. And are the kind I deal with when I'm flaring up which I seem to be right now. I too stay inside and away from work when dealing with them because they are so painful and unsightly.

Hi Earthlinked --- I too get little hard plugs pushing out all over my chin. I think this is due to the tretinoin cream doing its job of expelling everything. I see this as a good thing.

Uuurgh. I feel your pain. I'm 31 too and I got a big cyst right now in the middle of my forehead that started on Friday. I'm trying to be strong right now and not put my hair back over my forehead (because my bangs were making the acne a little worse, forehead was clear for a couple months after I started pulling my bangs off my face). I do find even cysts go away eventually, usually within a few weeks and pustules usually like a week and a half or so.
