How I hide my acne (PHOTOS)

Basically, I would just like to share how I use my make-up to hide my acne.

I've been changing techniques and make-up over the years, but I've found that the way I'm doing it now is my most successful so far! smile.gif

So, what I use:

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation/or Serum
Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer
Bare Minerals Original
Bare Minerals Warmth
Bare Minerals Veil
Any old eyeliner, mascara

So what I do first of all is wash my face with honey.

I then use diluted tea tree oil as a 'toner'.

I apply my foundation over my 'problem areas' with either a foundation brush or my fingers- the important thing is to apply it with an extremely light touch.

I then take a small brush and apply a tiny bit of concealer (which is lighter than my foundation) over spots that show more than others.

I then apply the Bare Minerals foundation as needed.

A tiny, tiny touch of Warmth on my cheeks, forehead, nose and chin.

And the mineral veil all over very lightly.

A tiny bit of mascara and eyeliner and voila!

I try very hard not to overdo it. I have in the past and I have concluded that I would much much rather look like I have a few pimples and marks rather than a face caked in make-up which only makes me look 'dirtier'.

Focus on your face as a whole, not pimple by pimple. If you give problem areas too much attention, people will notice you tried very hard to cover them up!

Apply your make up using daylight or the most unflattering light bulb you have, so that you;re extra careful you don't over do it. When you're done, look in a mirror which makes you look good and walk out as if you have perfect skin. (I know, easy to say!)

Wow! That looks great! Your blemishes are covered super well without the makeup looking cakey. Very impressive!

I actually saw a video posted quite some time ago in this sub-forum about a similar application that focuses on covering just the problem areas and evening out skin tone rather than covering the whole face with makeup. Do the colors you use match your skin tone perfectly or do you blend them out so that it appears to match? That's my only concern, I can't find makeup that is my exact skin color, so I worry my face would just end up looking blotchy.

Could you tell us more about the Bourjois products? What price are they? What kind of coverage do they give, how many color choices are there etc. I've never heard of them before

Thanks! smile.gif

Bourjois is a company owned by Chanel. Their Healthy Mix range claims to boost radiance through apricot extract, hydration through melon etc etc. Of course, they're still full of chemicals- they're basically just the kind of make-up you find in high street stores? I pay about 16Euros for the foundation /or serum (which I once bought kind of by mistake, it's slightly different but works just as well as a 'base'), which must be around 23$. The concealer costs around 9Euros which is like 13$.

I actually have a hard time finding a foundation which doesn't make me look too orange, too white, or too pink! I remember using the Revlon Colorstay thing and literally covering my face and neck with it because it gave my face such a weird hue compared to the rest. So I guess this is why I ended up with such a 'weird' technique, haha!
I use number 25 vanilla, or number 53 light beige as foundations and a shade lighter with the concealer. To be honest, I just use whatever I feel like using at the time, so I may wear one shade one day, and another the next. I just use it to kind of 'even out' the colors on my face! With the concealer on top of that, my face is a complete mess- which is why I then use Bare Minerals to finish off. I got a Get Started set or whatever it's called, so I sometimes mix up a couple of colors.

I guess that this works because the Bourjois foundation don't exactly cover your skin, I find them really light- while Bare Minerals covers even less but acts as a finish. So they kind of blend, blend and blend and create an illusion rather than cover up completely.

Color choices: here
I think they have a very slight yellow undertone, and that suits me just fine! tongue.gif

But really, I'm guessing you can use any brand of foundation/ powder. They just both have to give light coverage- not provide a mask!

Ugh! It's not even sold here in the US! Those colors look so nice, too. *sigh* What a bummer!!! The price isn't too bad, either!

And yeah I know what you mean about foundations being too pink, orange or white. There's definitely not enough yellows out there. Though certain Colorstay foundations works pretty well for me

Wow that's amazing!

I wish I was that skilled at applying makeup, I mean....if you're like 4 feet away from me you can't see it, but if I go right up close to the mirror I can see it.

I can do a decent job of covering up, I just don't know what it looks like out in the sun.

that's interesting you use tea tree oil as a toner - Do you think that helps with your acne? I use it to spot treat occassionally and I apply it undiluted (100%...smells aweful).

edit: when you put the bare mineral stuff on, it doesn't look weird over the liquid foundation? is that stuff under a certain brand name, I keep hearing about it?

---

Makes me super sad when I was my makeup off if i'm feeling decent that day....then all I see is a wet, red, pimply, purple-marked face [ /Self pity lol ]

I think it gives me kind of a 'matt' base, but that could just be me! And I do think it helps with my acne, makes it look less inflamed smile.gif

Well, I don't think it's meant to be put over foundation, but it seems to work just fine for me, kind of like a finishing powder I guess. I think it might be the brand name everyone says breaks them out, that's why you must have heard about it! In my case... well I haven't really noticed any kind of abnormal breakout ever since I started using it, maybe it's because I don't put it directly on my skin...!

Fantastic job eusa_dance.gif This is one of the major advantages to being female. If I could have covered my acne that successfully it would never have been a problem for me. Unfortunately I think people would have noticed if I'd started wearing make up eusa_think.gif

What a hotty smile.gif

That looks amazing! I can never seem to get Bare Minerals to look so natural. How do you get it looking so smooth? My face always looks so 3D with all the bumps confused.gif

The Bourjois foundation I've been using lately as a 'base' is actually the serum. I think it acts a bit like a primer, and smooths out my skin. I've also noticed that bumps are much less remarkable if your skin is well moisturized. I moisturize with coconut oil in the evening, and apply tea tree oil in the morning smile.gif

Holy cow. I want to copy you, but I don't want to fork out all the money right now. Really though, A+. Your skin looks flawless. Despite having acne for (let me count...) 8 years now, I've never been very good at covering it up without it being obvious.
