Hello All--

I am just wondering if any of you had a vitamin D deficiency and/or found that it was related to acne?

I know this is a relatively common deficiency, but I recently had bloodwork showing I was deficient in the vitamin and am now on a high weekly dose of 50,000 IU's for 12 weeks before having levels be tested again.

My acne has flared up within the past 5 or 6 months, and I have been on multiple antibiotics, topicals, and had chemical peels with poor results. Just wondering if the vit. deficiency may have played a part....any advice/thoughts would be great!! Thanks smile.gif

There is a lot of evidence that vitamin D is very important to your skin's health. I'm only a few days into supplements, and am noticing a difference *fingers crossed*

That being said, be careful! What you probably got (in such a high dose) is vitamin d2. Vitamin d2 is not absorbed nearly as well and isnt nearly as beneficial to your skin as vitamin d3. If your doctor told you to take those then I would, but personally I think that getting some sun on skin without sunscreen (just 20 min a day) and taking a good quality liquid or gel cap vitamin d3 to be better. Right now I only take 4000 IU and I've noticed a few differences: no new acne for the past few days, Im not always soooooo cold, and I'm able to make it through a day without feelng like a zombie. I've felt those ways for months (since last summer oddly enough!) so it's big for me.

If you google vitamin d3 and acne, or vitamin d3 and skin, there's a lot of good information. And often what applies for one skin disorder (like psoriasis or eczema for example) in terms of vitamin d3 applies theoretically to acne too.

Like the last poster stated, vitamin D is linked towards skin health, so it is always a possibility. Keep your hopes up, but I wouldn't keep them too high - it is just vitamin d, which we all get from the sun anyway.
