I have been taking Tetralysal for 10 weeks now and I am still having major skin eruptions.
I reintroduced Differin 0.1 a month ago - so maybe the IB from that is slowing things down - I don't know.
How much longer should I give the Tetralysal before I call it quits? My initial plan had been to take Tetralysal until I had been using the Differin for at least 6 months - giving the Differin plenty of time to take effect. But I was assuming that the Tetralysal would work - no sign of this happening at all! I know to give the retinoids time - but surely the antibiotics should be having SOME effect by now? I am happy to stay on the retinoids for as long as it takes - but antibiotics are not healthy and they need to be working for me to feel comfortable about taking them!
So, so, so, so, so FRUSTRATED!!

Hi,just came across your post and was wondering how your getting on with the tetralysal now? I've been on them 10 weeks on thur and my spots seem to go away and then come back!! I'm covered in spots from my chest up to my face. Some red bumps and some small whiteheads. It starting to really depress me and get me down. I think I'll give tetralysal 12 weeks and see if theres any improvement. Hope your having more luck than me.xx

Should have kicked in within 10 weeks.
I'd say wait until week ~14, and then if you are absolutely sure that they have made no difference, wean off them (half of original dosage for a week, then half of that for a week, that half of that for a week). Take some pro-biotics and then try another antibiotic, or some alternative treatment.

Hey Curlysue and SMCC. Well, I took the Tetralysal for 19 weeks, along with Differin and saw no difference whatsoever. I was a massive waste of time - I would say give it 12-14 weeks and maybe ask to take a different antibiotic. I would also ask about topical retinoids - I was given Differin 0.1 which is pretty much the weakest out there. If I could do it all over again I would have asked for Retin-A which is stronger and has had alot of positive feed back on these boards. Curlysue, are you seeing a dermatologist?
I am now taking Roaccutane, my GP referred me to a proper derm who took one look at me and said I should take it, so here I am!

Sorry, I'm only new and still getting used to this. I'm seeing the doc in my local clinic, apparently he's a 'skin doc' but not sure if he's a dermatologist. How's the acccutane working for u? I'd love to get on it but I'm really scared of the initial breakout. I'm a teacher and just back to school so don't know if I could cope with these spots getting worse

I have been on and off Tetralysal for around 9 years now. At first an initial 3 months cleared my acne up, it cam back a year later. in the last 3 years I cannot be off the tablets for more than 2 weeks without getting covered again. However, they start working for me within 2 weeks too. I do not see a complete clearing of the skin but I do see nothing new with the skin clearing totally at around 4 - 5 weeks in. I have had no side effects from the dose so I am lucky there. I sometimes wonder if I should try something else but also think that I will have another bad time with the acne which is something I would not want, particualry working in the food industry.
