You're at the mirror, and you've successfully purged a couple of pesky blackheads. You feel a mounting sense of victory. Sebum is no match for me!

Then you get cocky, and you notice that one that's been bothering you for a while but doesn't look like it can be squeezed, but whatever, you're on a roll now.

...

Half an hour later you're sporting a huge brick-red spot in the middle of your face. And to top it off your previous conquests have also turned an attractive shade of crimson.

Must remember:

Blackhead to spot ratio = 1 : 10,000,000,000,000,000

I know that feeling all too well!! It really is so much better to just leave pimples alone although it is SO difficult. But I am at that point where I know that i if i pick it, it WILL turn out looking swollen and red. Plus it's much more difficult to notice pimples left untouched!

If I see a white head, my thoughts are always, 'People will see that and associate a big white head with me being greasy and unclean'. Not true of course, but that's how I think. So I pop the hell out of it, even if it's hardly formed at all, which obviously makes it a million times worse, redder, painful, huge and swollen.

My biggest battle has always related to how my skin looks to others. Or rather, how I think it looks to others and how they would judge it. If it's right that, as you say, pimples don't stand out so much when they're left alone, perhaps I would look better overall, to myself and to others if I just left it. the fact that I barely know what they look like and what happens if you leave them alone proves that I have always popped the hell out of stuff far too early or even totally unnecessarily.

I really need to get a grip on that. It's just that the habit goes way back to a time when I didn't know any better, and even though I know better now, it does seem really hard to break.

hey paul. Well, have you gotten any pitted scars from popping them? If so, that would be a good reason to stop popping

No, my scars are actually very minimal. I only have a few. Last couple of months, things have been a little slow to heal so one or two are hanging around. But they're not serious at all. My main thing is that I've made my acne last for years and years when it probably would have cleared up had I treated it properly and let it run its course. Still, it's not too late to start being good to my skin I suppose! smile.gif

This topic made actually made me laugh, I know that feeling all too well and seeing it written down... it just seems funny.

I definitely get cocky once I've squeezed a good few successfully and I know I've managed to get the core out, I'm like.. 'oooooh yeah' and then boom, that one you decided to leave alone when you saw it surfacing, is now about to feel your wrath because you're on a winning streak, but oh no, that pesky spot wins and brings you back down to earth and then you feel like crap coz you've realised you now look like someone has taken a red marker to your face.

I wish squeezing spots wasn't so satisfying *sigh* I'm pretty sure I'd look a hell of a lot better if I didn't squeeze my face. For me, comedones are the worst, they're tiny bumps, they're not even painful, but man do I attack the hell out of those. And then they get red and look 100x worse.
