Hi,

I'm thinking of adding Vitamin D supplement as part of my regime, but i'm just wondering if its best to get Vitamin D or Vitamin D3? This may sound like a stupid question, but what are the differences? Also what are your experiences with taking Vitamin D? I'm very limited to sun exposure so i think it will useful. Is it good at reducing breakouts/ scarring and so on?

Thanks guys, ur help is appreciated tongue.gif

From what I've heard, D3 is the best one to take. I can't answer your question as to what the difference is, if there even is one.

I take D3 (1000mgs) a day in the morning. I can't tell you if it's exactly doing something because I take a handful of other supplements too, but I know it won't hurt. Some people have had good results.

Here is a a good write up from Dr. Joel Fuhrman that might be helpful: http://www.drfuhrman.com/shop/osteosun_nv.aspx. smile.gif I definitely think taking vitamin D is a good idea! My signature lists other essential supplements that are good for acne as well.

I started taking D3 recently. I know I get a ton vitamin A,B,C,E, and a good amount of K from the fruits and vegetables I eat daily now. But D seems to be really lacking in my diet since I'm not huge on dairy.

I don't buy that I get enough D from the sun, but next month I'll have a physical done and request a blood test to make sure I'm balanced.

First of all...there are 2 types of vitamin Ds (which is actually a hormone)
They are Vitamin D2 and Vitamin D3

D2 is found in mushrooms and in animals, while
D3 can only be attained by being out in the sun (no suncreen) or by taking supplements

D2 is dangerous if you overdose, while
it is much more difficult to OD in D3

*I believe D2 is prescription only in the US, although I could be wrong

Secondly...I recently read studies conducted by Harvard, Stanford, and University of California which said by being out in the sun for 30min...w/ minimal clothing though (rough estimate as it is different for everyone, depending on body mass, skin color, and etc.), you receive an intake of ~10,000 IU of D3.
This is generally have no toxic effect on you sideways.gif

That being said, you should do a D3 testing to see how much D3 you should take each day...

But 1000 IU and 2000 IU could be considered the minimum.

But don't go crazy and do the 10,000 IU dose either. It comes in the form of a gel/pill, whose absorption is different from how your body absorbs the vitamin D from the sun...the process if too complicated to explain =/

I tried taking Vitamin D in softgel form for 9 days or so... it didn't yield any results and I was still breaking out during that period. I know it may seem like a short time frame, but it didn't reduce the drastic oil secretion I had either... Just in case you were wondering if all those positive reviews.

To add, I was also applying BP and exfoliating my face
