I have had Folluculitis since July 2010 when I visited a barber and he cut me while I was shaving. A big boil grew on that area and bumps filled my neck area with pus filled pimples. Now my situation has improved somewhat after visiting the emergency room on 3 seperate occasions. The pus is completely gone but some bumps remain with swelling and two of the bumps are white. Please is there anything out there to finish this thing off. It has significantly affected my social life. Im 25 Black male. Please help me

Hi,
I read that for the type of follicutlits it sounds like you have, the following things are really helpful.

1. Wash area with an antibacterial soap twice a day and GENTLY pat dry.
2. Use a new washcloth and/or towel every time so that you won't spread the infection.
3. Do NOT shave because this can reopen the infection and cause it to spread (although one website said that if you MUST shave, atleast use an electric razor)
4. Do not share towels and washcloths with anyone b/c this can spread to others this way.
5. Wet a washcloth or towel with white vinegar and warm water and rest against the infected area several times a day to help with healing and itching. Be sure to gently dry the area well afterwards.
6. For itching, you can use a hydrocortisone cream found at any drug store.
7. You can clean the areas with hydrogen peroxide, which is said to kill the germs.
Besides all that, just keep the area dry and avoid irritating the area as much as possible.
If things don't improve then I would see the doctor again and get an antibiotic.
