Hello everyone! Recently my friend told me she takes a vitamin D supplement everyday and it keeps her acne free. I did some research online and it seems like a lot of people have success with this. But how much should I take? Also..I want to start going to my local tanning salon but I'm not sure how much vitamin D I should take if I'm also tanning which gives my body vitamin D as well. If you could help me I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

The Vitamin D councils website recommends 5000IU for 2-3 months, take a vitamin D test, then adjust the dost higher or lower to reach a maintenance level.
"take 5,000 IU per day for 2–3 months, then obtain a 25-hydroxyvitamin D test. Adjust your dosage so that blood levels are between 50–80 ng/mL (or 125–200 nM/L) year-round."
You could start with a lower dose such as 1000-2000IU if you have relatively good sun exposure.
Vitamin D helped with my back acne a lot but didn't do anything for my face really.

^yeah. Take at least 1000 iu but most likely 2-3000 depending on how much sun exposure you get/skin color/latitude. Visit the vitamin D council website for info.

It depends what blood concentration you want to reach and what dose you need to maintain those levels.

Only a blood test will give you an accurate reading. You can buy them online and then send them off to a lab, though it may cost a bit.
Maybe you could take it for awhile, see how you feel, then decide if you want to carry on with the supplementation. If you have limited sun exposure, a low fat diet, fat malabsorption or live in a place were the suns rays are weaker you may have lower levels of Vitamin D.
