So I have been having pretty horrific acne since I was 23, I am now 34. My breakouts are cystic, and nodular, not all over the face, just in spots. When I get a pimple its not just a pimple, Its a huge, hard one. Anyway I been on retin-a for two months, and haven't had a breakout since, nothing. My skin is smooth, radiant, and flawless. I never got an initial breakout. This stuff is a miracle, I am soo happy my dermatologist prescribed it to me. I am going to keep using it, because I heard its great for scars and wrinkles too. I love my derm, and retin-a. If your scared to try it, give it a try, because its fabulous. My skin looks amazing. Virtually poreless, and without makeup.

Demona,
Can I ask you - did you have any indented scars and did it help them?

Yes I have many atropic scars on my forehead, It is too soon to tell in my progress affecting those scars, I believe it is a gradual process, and two months is obviously not enough time. It is beneficial to scars, but it is a long process, it doesn't happen overnight obviously.

I ponder why you frown upon it not irritating your skin? That is a good thing. I am using .025 percent as well and it cost me sixty dollars as well. How long have you been on it? I would suggest you use cepaphil cleanser, to replace your existing.

I've been on the tretinonin cream for 9 months now. From all the research I've done, the cream will make your skin oilier than the gel versions. I didn't really experience much of a breakout when I started, but I did have some blackheads/closed comedones come to the surface. Those resolved themselves with time. I don't get my cream from a derm, but from my aesthetician and have paid upwards of $75 for mine. I'd love to get my insurance to chip in!!

I STILL get patches of peeling skin nearly every day, but no other irritation. While in the shower, I can rub my hands against my face and my skin will shed like crazy!

I have a bad reaction to one of the ingredients in Cetaphil, but use a glycerin, natural soap instead. I do hope you stick w/ tret. because it's supposed to be awesome in the long run. Perhaps see if you can switch to the gel if you feel the cream is too greasy for your skin. The cream wasn't designed for acne prone skin. It was designed for those that want to combat the signs of aging. I personally use it for scarring and to control my hormonal acne as well, and I tolerate the cream fine.

Yes I do notice the cream makes me very oily. By midday I need to powder my face. But I started spiro and noticed my oily skin is less apparent. I never noticed my face so oily before I started the tretenoin. But its clear so that is all I am concerned about.

I am so sorry to hear about your IB. Just stick with it, it will improve.. If not maybe its not the topical for you. Trust your dermatologist.

I agree.....the tret has done wonders for my skin. My skin is so smooth and I hardly break out. If I do, it's because of my period or something I ate that I shouldn't. Plus my acne heals faster than before. I also love the fact that I great for wrinkles...!!!!! I don't have any, but I'm sure happy I can prevent them.

I've used topical Tretinoin (Generic Tretinoin and Retin-A Micro, and even another scrip retinoid, Differin) several times in my life. Accutane (-- Isotretinoin, internal form of Tretinoin) helped me, but the topical Tretinoin just frustrated me.
I was on it this last time for almost 3 years. It reduced blackheads, yea, but everything else was still there...whiteheads, cysts...it just made them peely. I don't know about anyone else, but I'd rather have zits than peely zits.
Derm said I had to make an appt (for her to walk in the room for 2 minutes) in order to get another scrip . I decided to try over the counter Retinol (another retinoid/derivative of vitamin A). It's supposed to be milder than Tret, but supposedly less effective. The Retinol (Neutr Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream, with green tea) has done more for my skin in the past 2 months than Retin-a ever did. i assume maybe the Retin-a was harsher and irritated my skin and caused more acne, whereas Retinol is not as harsh and my skin has settled down. who knows.
