Hi Wingeserpent and THANK YOU for the vegetable juice idea. I had never heard of it but after reading your post for about 1 month ago I bought a juicer and started juicing vegetables every morning. I've been juicing mostly potatoes (regular) and carrots, trying to get better from my gastritis (read somewhere on the Internet that potato juice is alkaline and good for stomach ailments) and guess what! My mild acne is completely gone (it took about 10 days), my blackheads are 90 % gone ( I had a LOT of them) and my skin looks better than ever. I am 39 years old and I have never had so clear skin! My skin is still very oily but the acne is completely gone, and my energy level is amazing. Wish I knew about this years ago! My kids drink now apple-carrot juice every morning and I will keep on juicing!
Greetings fr Portugal

I just wanted to provide a quick update.

I now know that the saw palmetto is what drastically reduced my oil. I stopped taking saw palmetto after my period started, and the oiliness came back after a few days and I got a couple of pimples on my jawline which indicates hormonal acne. I took one 160 mg pill, and my complexion became matte again.

I'm intrigued by what saw palmetto is doing for me, but I am not willing to stop the b5/lcarnitine + juicing regimen. The science behind it makes sense, and I feel good doing it. Besides, I haven't given it enough time to say whether or not it works. I did notice that it helped my chronically chapped lips and my skin is much softer.

As for saw palmetto, it seems like it works really well for me, but it also acts as a sedative and makes me extremely dehydrated. I wake up in the morning feeling groggy and completely parched. I kind of like that it makes me tired, so I'm taking it at night now and I'm drinking a ton of water all day. So for now it's bearable, but I'm reading that others who have used it eventually had to stop because of "brain fog" and tiredness. It does inhibit the absorption of iron, so perhaps long term usage is associated with anemia? Who knows? There isn't much info on saw palmetto for acne on this site, or at least it's buried. I definitely plan to research this more. Maybe my fantastic results are because of the saw palmetto working synergistically with the b5/l carnitine? It's hard to say. But I do know that juicing helps give me energy and low sugar is just a good idea for general health.

Anyway, I'm grateful that I've found something that seems to be working. Best of luck everyone!

Wait a second, isn't it because of all the vitamin A that this diet works so well; I didn't even know that sweet poatatoes contain more vitamin A than carrots do. Accutane is all about vitamin A, so it makes sense that this diet would work well for acne. As for vitamin B5; isn't that a hormone regulator? Correct me if I'm wrong, anyone.. Thanks.

I really like this thread. This guy sounds like he knows what he's talking about! That said, I must share my story.

I had cystic and nodular acne for 17 years. Very oily skin. Acne runs on both sides of the family. One day I went to the dermatologist. She prescribed me BenzaClin, it's benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin, a topical antibiotic. I just put a little on after I wash my face with Cetaphil, then follow up with moisturizer. I instantly stopped breaking out and now get a tiny one every month or so. Also, I wash my face with a Clarisonic Mia, which got rid of the blackheads before I even went to see the derm. I don't think my results are typical but seriously give it a try. I logged on today just to share this in the hopes that it might help someone else.
