I'm going to assume that the majority of you on here with oily skin have blotted at one time or another, and I know some of you blot several times a day (myself included) which starts to add up after a while.

What I'm wondering is what different types/brands of blotting paper people use and what's the best "bang for the buck." I'm keep trying to find a cheaper brand but I feel like the don't absorb enough oil or they absorb, but I still look shiny. (and yes, I've tried napkins and toilet paper). Do powdered blotting sheet work better?

Also, are there any drawbacks of blotting? eusa_think.gif
I know that it's a general rule to keep contact with the face to a minimum, to avoid the transfer of oils and bacteria.

Any will do for me, but i personally use the clean and clear oil-absorbing sheets. 50 sheets for under 5 bucks or so.

I used to buy Clean & Clear oil blotting sheets, but now I use those paper toilet seat covers you find in public restrooms and they seem to work just as well.

I like to use plain tissues. I feel like blotting papers are actually pretty expensive, especially for those dealing with extremely oily skin. The kind I have now, I have to use about 4 sheets to get all the oil just off of my t-zone. It feels like such a waste.

I just like to grab a tissue and literally stick the entire thing all across my face and press it into my skin a little... no rubbing necessary (in private, of course... bc it looks pretty ridiculous). It's great bc it absorbs enough oil to make my face appear matte without rubbing around any of my makeup, and you're not repeatedly pressing something onto different spots of your face so it's more sanitary. Just make sure it doesn't contain any lotion or anything bc those don't absorb very much. The thin scratchy ones work best... plus they're cheaper!

If not, go ahead a grab some toilet seat covers... it's pretty much a large, circular oil-blotting sheet.

i just go to the store and get cheap picnic napkins. i can use one whole sheet for my entire face by applying it once to my face. i open up the napkin then take one straight edge of it and put it on the very top of my forehead and just press from top to the bottom of the chin. gets everything with only one napkin. cheap.

Do using the napkins irritate your skin more? I currently use the clean and clear (i think that's the brand) I also use the Walgreen's store brand, the're about $1 or so cheaper. But I would love to hear some other suggestions. I'm really looking to purchasing some "man" makeup haha and get some powder to control my shine.

I also like the Clean & Clear sheets. They just take the oil off without screwing up my makeup. They're great bc they really get ALL the oil off.

I buy my blotting papers from Sally Beauty Supply. I pay 3 bucks for a package of 150. I think they work great and much better than toilet paper or tissues.

Brown paper napkins are the best because you can see the oil you are taking off and leaves you matte.

I use what I find.....toilet paper, tissue, napkins. LOL...I have also used the roll of paper on my calculator (it's recycled, so I can see the amont of oil). Actually I'm really worried now about getting dry skin. I'm on spiro and apparently it dries out the skin. I have noticed I've reduced teh blotting slightly. It's funny thought how my nose/forhead are the oiliest part of my face, yet I don't get acne there at all.....any thoughts???

I recently purchased ELF blotting papers. They are really inexpensive and work really well! Cost was always a deterrent in trying these before. $1.50 for a 50 sheet pack. I bought 10 and saved $5 so they were only $1 for 50 in the end. It does sometimes require 2 for me, but doing 1 periodically will help.

I agree. They are really good at such a great price. They are also recommended as a best buy by Paula Begoun btw.

The very first blotting sheets I used was the Proactiv ones. They were great. They absorbed all the oil but didn't ruin my makeup. Then I used Clean & Clear ones and I thought they were great until I realized they broke me out (The mineral oil). So I now I just use the toilet paper that my school bathroom does. It's nice and thin and absorbs all the oil just as well as a blotting sheet would. It's great and I can stock up.

I have tried rice paper blotting papers (Palladio is the brand) they work well and make you even more "matte" I always get the non-scented of course with teh clear powder Id advise anyone to be cautious if they have sensitive skin but they work nicely for me.
Sallys beauty and Ulta sell Palladio.

Clean and Clear oil absorbing sheets work best for me. I like seeing the oil that comes off my face, and it's very gentle at the same time.

I blotted a couple of times last Friday night (with a tissue) on my forehead where I rarely get zits. It's now Monday and I have a very healthy looking pimple right on my forehead and a smaller friend of his up near my hairline.

Yep... if you blot you basically want to keep it to a minimum, because it can/will give you new pimples.

I use the Clean & Clear oil blotting sheets. I bought a pack of ten online from Hong Kong. You get 60 instead of the regular 50 and each pack came to about 11cents each. ( I can't remember the total price I paid) biggrin.gif
