I have mild acne, but it doesn't feel mild to me. I've tried literally everything.
My skin never looks normal. It's either extremely dried out from products. Or extremely broken out. Antibiotics used to work very well and now they don't anymore. I just had a fight with my father because he won't allow me to take accutane. My dermatologist said that I can't be on antibiotics forever (and I've tried retin-a and every other thing there is), and that I should consider accutane for the future. I understand that I have "mild," but it reall does ruin my everyday life.... My skin was dry from proactive extra strength and benzaclin today, when I looked in the mirror, I thought I looked like an old lady- my skin looked wrinkley, especially under my eyes. And I'm just so sick of it, because if I don't use extra strength, my skin breaks out, and when I do, it gets too dry. I'm sick of not being able to move my face and feeling like I have a mask on. And I'm sick of looking in the mirror at school and seeing small bumps all over the place. Do you think I should be on accutane? Does anyone have any thoughts?

I was considering it at one point as I had been on it when I was younger I thought a mild dose wouldn't be such a bad idea. But after reading some horror stories about higher doses and inability for lower doses to keep acne away once stopped I decided I'd suck it up and live with mild acne. Also accutane will make your face unbelievably red and dry for a long while so maybe it would be best to take a trip to your derm to see what he says. Good luck.

ps let me apologize in advanced but I just wanted to say cute picture :3

Idk, i'm going to get Accutane as soon as possible. since i have the fear of looking the mirror and see a 90 years old guy... with wrinkly skin.. I would say if your not scare go for it. Besides if it doesn't workout, We could find another way. Also, the doctor will be able to keep track of your body condition as you take Accutane so i guess that would make you think abit wether you wanna do it or not

how is dry lips and a bit of redness comparable to having completely destroyed self esteem?

I wouldn't say it's bullshit.

Different medications work differently for everyone. In my case, Accutane did clear my acne up but it's permanently altered my skin. it used to be pretty tolerant but Accutane made it so sensitive that it's taken me a year to find a moisturizer that i can actually use without giving me a blister-like rash.

I'm not saying don't try Accutane. but just be aware that dry skin and cracked lips aren't always the only side effects. i'm proof of that.
