Week 10-11

Hey guys,

Haven't had any new pimples, just redmarks booooooooooo. I asked my derm if i could put something on them (emu oil) or anything and she just said "no, don't risk it" basically. They are fading, but ofcourse we all want perfection fast. Whenever i get a pimple, they are really really really small, as small as a pore (not noticeable). I just have the redmarks.

Interesting Note: My dermatologist actually found that taking Accutane may actually improve collagen (for those whom have deep pitted scars). Now i dont have this problem but for those who do, she said that they would make appointments 6 months- a year later to do Microderm and come back with improved scars (almost fully resurfaced).

Take care guys

Hey! Congratulations on being satisfied with your progress on accutane! i also started on a low dose - 10 mg - and i'll be going up to 20 the next month and then onto 30 and 40 in the consequent months in order to get my body used to the medication! your log is really inspirational, so thank you for keeping it! How long are you going to be doing the course for, do you know? What is your dosage after 40 mg? are you going any higher or are you staying on 40 till the end?

Hey! I actually went into my derms office a couple of days ago with a plan and showed her how i want my dosage to be and she agrees. She is a great dermatologist and very knowledgeable.

It will go like:
1 month-20
2 month-40
3 month-40
4 month-50
5 month-50
6 month-50
7 month-50

Your derm is in the right state of mind starting you off on a low dose and raising it. May i ask how bad your condition is?

Thanks!

Hey! sorry for the late reply! My condition isn't bad at all, my acne is quite mild. My forehead is just has flesh colored bumps and one picked at mini cyst right now... Sometimes you can't virtually see anything, but I sure see it all! Plus, I have a few clogged pores here and there, and a few whiteheads on my chin. So thats why the doctors put me on a low dose, but I am so impatient. They want me graduaally at 40 as I've stated earlier, so I'll be doing 20 in february, hopefully, and then 30 (maybe in the last 2 weeks of february) in order to do 40 in march!

How are you doing?

Hey guys, it's been quite awhile since i've posted on here. Im in my 5th month now and everything seems to be going well. All thats left is redness, can't wait till summer and May to be done. I have only 1 1/2 months left!

Not really any side effects, my back pain has definately gone away since the 2nd-3rd month and i only experience dry skin, dry eyes (sometimes), chap lips (obvy).

take it easy

Hi Guys,

I know its rolling into May real soon and I just finished school. Couple more weeks and ill be done with Accutane. So sad haha..

All i have left is some redmarks that are really tiny. I feel they'll fade fast by themselves.

I want a maintenance regime after Accutane, would you recommend Retin-A?

done in 21 days! I've been cleAr for a while now and hope it stays haha. I'm reaching a dose of 150 kg so I'm pretty sure that wil give me some time to grow out of this. I will have a maintenance system after my course and advise others to do the same. I know what it feels like when you have no self esteem cause of this disease and I don't plan on feeling that low about myself again. I will not allow this shit to ever come between me and my personal life again whether I need to use topicals everyday for the rest of my life, it's just not worth it. hope everyone is doing well.

Hey man,

I would recommend a topical retinoid for maintenance; what has your Derm suggested?

Don't forget to post in the Positive Accutane Experiences thread once you're finished.

Congrats!

I got a prescription for finacea. It helps with post redmarks as well as keeping acne at bay. It doesn't cause any irritation as well. I'll work up to this to see how my skin reacts. I may look into a low dose of Retin-A after 2 months off Accutane when my skin isn't as irritable.

Thanks Biggs!

1 Month Post

Everything is going well! I've been using finacea the day that i quit and it's been working like a charm. I thought my skin would be really irritated by it, but i guess its not. I just apply moisturizer then apply the 15% finacea gel right after. I haven't had any breakouts!

Peace guys, ill update this when im 3 months post

Almost 5 months post

I'm completely clear and have been for the last 10 months. I keep my skin clear with retin-a and it is working like a charm. I can't stress how important it is to use a maintenance cream after your Accutane treatment. 100% Guarantee you won't and you'll be back complaining about how it returned. Anyways, Take care!

7 Months Post

No acne on face, still clear. Redmarks have almost completely faded with the help of Retin-a/finacea. Still living the dream

I've always kinda flushed before Accutane but it didn't/hasn't exaggerated it anymore than it was. I didn't experience any skin thinning. When I do get a pimple, it doesn't leave any type of scar and usually fades within 24-48 hours. This is with ofcourse the help with my maintenance system. I think if i wasn't using retin-a, I would be upset. My skin is repairing itself amazingly too. Accutane has been shown to help with collagen in the skin after the course (meaning it can plump up any scars such as pits that aren't too deep). Retin-a helps with this also.
