Hey guys,

I suffered from mild-moderate acne yet persistant for about 3 years now (im 20). I had it under control where i applied it (forhead/chin/nose) with proactiv for two years. All of a sudden i broke out on my cheeks where i use to never break out. Right now i have some redmarks and about 3 active on both. I went to the derm today for the first time and she was so astonished about how much i knew about skin, infact she said i had more knowledge than most derms there hahaha. I think after 3 years of researching antibiotics and everything really helped. I wish i went into dermatology. Anyways, she told me she was doing a conference tomorrow about how derms over prescribe useless antibiotics and bactrim (which can lead to SJS). I talked to her about my history of antibiotics and topicals etc. I asked her what she thinks about accutane and she was like "Thats what i was just going to ask you".. I was like "YES"!!. . We talked about the dosage and i said i would rather start at 40 mg. She wants a cumalative dose of 150kg so here we go.

Heres some information she told me:
- I asked her if i should take vit E for joint pains and she actually told me that Vit e can counteract with accutane making it less successful and relapsing(but every derm has their own opinion).

-Its been recently found that doxycyline can cause SJS even after 4.3 years after treatment (dont worry though). I only took it for like 2 months and stopped. Hated it.

- Flare up happens but not that often.

Anyways, I start next week just did my blood test and it takes a week. I will not log everyday progress because it will only make me more obsessive about my skin.

Status: papules/whiteheads(about 5), 1 small nodule under chin, clogged pores (sad.gif)

Song of the day: Just a Dream-nelly

u can smoke weed. theres no correlation between that and accutane. acne maybe idk. but it wont effect accutane. acohol will though. u can drink sometimes but itll stress ur liver even more.

ya i may be a physician assisstant in a dermatology office. cuz i don't wanna go to med school lol or a pharmacist.

I asked my derm if it was ok to smoke pot while on tane. I told him I smoked "occasionally" he said it's fine. He kinda promoted it actually haha. Said it would help me ignore my drying skin. I smoke everyday.

Hey guys,

Just letting you know i took my first accutane pill (40 mg) today with dinner (pizza/salad). I weigh about 62kg so this is how it is going to go:

Month 1 - 20 mg everyday (to help with IB)
Month 2- 40 mg every day
Month 3-6- Unknown right now will update

Beyong the second month i have no idea what the dosage will be (sorry). She stated to me she wants me to get a cumilative dose of 150kg. I agreed so it will eventually get upped once again by month 3 and so forth. My dermatologist is very logical it seems and knows alot about acne and has worked with many patients with accutane. She hates antibiotics and hates the fact that derms keep prescribing it, I completely agree with her. Shes worked with alot of people on accutane and said she hasn't had any problems with her patients since shes kept them monitored fairly close. I get blood tests done every 2 weeks for 2 months and than montly afterwards.

Products im using while on accutane:
Cleanser - Effaclar h cleanser (LaRoche) or Cetaphil (Not too sure yet)
Moisturizer - Effaclar H Moisturizer (LaRoche)
Lip Balm - Blistex or ceralip
Nose dryness - Fucidin Cream wink.gif

*These are meant specifically for Accutane patients if you want to pay the price -_-.

Anyways, im going to try not to come on here everyday but ill come on here weekly/monthly or whenever i want to post. My acne is really isnt that bad but its persistent. Ill let you know my progress weekly/monthly.

I wonder if ill see significant results with 20 mg in a month hummm, we will see i guess.

Thanks guys

hmm one question.. will i see results even with 20 mg? im only using it for 3-4 weeks until i start my real dose.. just wondering... I guess any accutane is better than non. I've heard of people even clearing up in 2 weeks on it. And by the looks of it, they had it worse than me.

Hmm...

thanks guys have a good day

u should see some sort of effect with 20mg. but i sorta doubt itd clear u up in 2 weeks. accutane is kind of a teaser. at least thats what ive seen both this time and last time. both times i cleared up like 2 weeks in. THEN the IB hit. which was bad for another 2 weeks then sorta mellowed but i still broke out. then started seeing improvement month 3

Nothing new to report.. no actives on face and its been pretty decent since starting. Uh... i hate reading horror stories about accutane i really need to stop. It just caused me to think about it all day lol... not worth it. I notice though, Its pretty much the same people posting all over the internet (sheefa/oli girl/lamarr or w/e / greg)... they really need to stop it.

I have this feeling for the last day or so of hunger/gassy... weird... sorry it doesnt sound attractive but im kinda worried lol. I am only on 20mg and this could be coincidence but i just wonder if anyone else experienced some gas on this treatment. As for face, its looking decent actually.

You definitely should contact your doctor for further evaluation as isotretinoin has been linked to bowel disorders.

ya i just left her a message. I have been taking zinc though lately with accutane to keep my immune system up and sex drive ... im very cautious about this therapy treatment and don't want anything bad to happen. Zinc is linked to gas also i've read and it has been happening while on it. I dont have diarhea (sp?) and my rumbling in my stomach goes away once im standing up or after i eat. Thank

Hey, I have a question if you dont mind.

I am starting accutane tomorrow for my first time. I have been on everything possible the derm can perscribe she said. And it has helped. Honestly I only have mild acne too. I just have a lot of bumps under my skin and it is pretty oily. I have a lot of red marks and such also. I just want to have clear skin so I decided accuntane. The only thing is that i am scared about it getting worse. I expect an initial breakout maybe but I dont want to end up making it worse. Should I be worried about this?

IN MY OPINION, I would ask your derm to start you on a low dose (20 mg ) to see how your body works with it and to avoid a potential bad initial breakout. Im on day 7 now and everything seems to be clearing up but its too early to make assumptions. Talk to your derm about it and see what they think, but mention the low dose for the first month.

Also, good luck. Try to avoid the horror stories
