So I started taking B6 about a week ago because I read that it helps with hormonal acne. But now I read alot of other stuff saying B6 can cause acne. This might explain the horrible breakout i"m having when my skin was 95% clear before I started taking it. Would I be better off taking a B-complex vitamin? I heard those work better for acne.

B-Complex broke me out. I think it's the Biotin in it. I've read others claiming the same thing... I think the best B vitamin to take is B5. I'm not quite sure though.

yeh, I've read that B5 is the best to take, but I also read that taking B5 without taking other B vitamins won't have much affect. I'm so confused. I don't know what I should do. confused.gif

a little while back i purchased a sample for acnescript. from my understanding, they make one for normal skin and another for oily skin. i have the oily skin version.

in addition to other herbs, its main ingredients are:
500mgs of B5 (5000% times the recommended daily intake); and
20mgs of B6 (1000% the recommended daily intake).

so yeah it appears you need both.

If I were only going to take one of the Vitamin B molecules, it would probably be folic acid. There's no miracle cure in a Vitamin B complex, but it does contain multiple substances potentially relevant to acne.

I guess my main question is Vitamin B a necessary supplement for acne? I already take fish oil, evening primrose oil, a daily multi vitamin, zinc, calcium with vitamin d and ACV in tablet form.

It's not necessary, but then again, none of the supplements you take are wink.gif

Studies show a good correlation between acne and low levels of B-5. Taking B5 usually results in an intial break out. Go with the B Complex, but be patient with it. High levels of B 6 should be avoided and high levels of B 12 may actually lead to more acne.

I think I'll just forget B supplements. My skin was doing fine before I added the B6 except for hormonal (PMS) breakouts, but that was why I purchased B6 anyway. Well, I'm already taking EPO for that reason, so I think I'll just skip the B complex for now.

Make sure you balance the calcium with magnesium. Are you doing the paleo diet? I believe you said you were following a diet in another thread. Anyway I've been mostly just eating veggies and meat and it's really ridiculous because it sometimes seems like the diet is making me sicker than better. I keep getting all these symptoms of deficiencies of vitamins and I don't even know what is causing them. Anyway I was getting a lot of B-vitamin deficiency symptoms...really bad pain in my feet. My heels were almost impossible to walk on for more than a few minutes, they burned while still when I was driving, twitching of my eye also lol. I'm no scientist but it has all stopped when I started on a B-complex so if you're not eating grains you should definitely watch out for deficiencies. I haven't noticed any changes in my face so I'm hoping it's doing more good than harm

No, I'm not doing the paleo diet. Just my own diet of changing how I eat and eating more fruits and veggies.

As far as I know, Vitamin E and Omega 3 Fish Oil work in a synergistic manner.

I'd say take both at the same time.
