Guys is it normal that all of my pimples, small or big, or even ones that last a day, leave a red mark behind? These red marks take many months to fade also. Keep in mind that i never pop my pimples, i just follow the regimen and use BP.

Maybe, genetically, i am just supposed to get these red marks? Is this normal?

I must add, i am of indian origin (asian indian) and my skin is between light brown and medium brown. Moreso light brown i guess..

Mine do as well. I have found that BP makes the red marks last longer, and also makes my skin more prone to scarring.

Where are the majority of your pimples? I only tend to get red marks that linger for a long time on my cheeks rather than my chin and forehead.

Hi Timehealsall,

I am also of asian background, light-medium brown skin and I tan easily. I've found that any pimple leaves a red mark behind for me too. I am also on the regimen.

Through my extensive research, I've found that the above criteria (ethnicity, color of skin, easily tans) leads to PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) and is quite common.

It's also really distressing because even though you've managed your acne, there are all these PIH scars that take months to go away and when they finally do, another pimple pops up and leaves another mark. boo =P

Hope that answers your questions. I'm looking into any treatments that might help. I've tried light peels, hydroquinone, and microdermabrasion all of which have had minimal effect. I've decided to try natural, simple treatments right now like lemon juice or apple cider vinegar. Nothing major yet but it's only been a few days. I'll let you know after a week.

If anyone has any other ideas, that would be helpful.

are you still following the regimen? Has it cleared you of your acne?

Maybe you always had those scars and never realized?

I dont get how benzoyl peroxide can cause scarring..

i have fairly light skin, and this happens to me too ):
right now i'm mixing lemon juice and olive oil and applying it to my face at night
and it seems to help a little bit! and doesn't dry out my skin, either
but i don't know how it would affect other people..

anyways, i hope you find something that helps! i know the feeling, it's very aggravating ):

the weird thing is, sometimes i cant tell if the pih i have is also scarred (indented scarring)

Another question i have, is when a pimple dies down, does it always immediately go flat? Or can it sometimes be slightly raised and then flatten on its own later on?

So i tried lemon juice for a week and it dried out my skin like no other. I decided to stop and let my skin rehydrate with some light moisturizing lotion. I didn't see any huge difference in lightening the hyperpigmented spots but I'll give it another go.

Will keep you all posted.

Happens to me too. I made a post about it awhile ago, not many replies. I'm white, and I don't go out in the sun much (which is supposedly recommended). But 1 pimple or spot, or tiny little thing will last 1, 2, at most 5 days then leave a red mark for months. I don't know how long, but I've tracked a few and they've been there for 6 months or more now. =/

Sucks because sometimes I'll go 2 week without a pimple, but it doesn't matter because I have 1000 red marks left on my face from the past 3 years of acne.

Yeah, I have the same problem. It's horrible when you're breaking out daily and every pimple leaves a mark which takes months to fade. When some day I'll stop breaking out there will still be hundreds of red marks left on my face for ages. Damn.

In the summer the sun fades my red marks and heals my acne completely but when it's autumn/winter there's no adequate sunlight for like 7 to 8 months. Sucks living up north.

I'm indian too and I have the same problem. I find that the products I use make the problem way worse. BP, Tazorac, Retin A all made my skin scar horribly, so I just stopped them all. Now I use mandelic acid and that helped fade the scars and prevent break outs. I would be very careful with what you put on your skin, be very gentle. I exfoliate with baking soda and then put on the mandelic. Paulas choice products also helped without causing scaring.

The skin on my face scars VERY easily. Every pimple, regardless of the size, leaves a dark mark (I'm Black) and it literally takes months for it to fade. I've been using Ambi Even and Clear Targeted Mark Minimizer, and noticed it does help quite a bit. But yeah, it's bad enough I'm 34 years old with acne, but then I have to deal with the marks afterwards!
