It probably turned out like every other dermabrasion procedure: he was excited with the swelling and then it went down and his scars came back.

Sadly I've seen it a million times.

Dermabrasion could be good, all depends.

It worked for me. I had two dermabrasions with Dr. Yarborough in New Orleans--if anyone's interested, I wrote extensively about it a few years ago and I'm sure you could find it in the archives.

Anti-Em: you are so cynical about it. Yes, there have been those for whom it doesn't work, but there have been many, many for whom it did. Those unfortunate ones who did not see any improvement remain on these boards in search of other solutions and so you continue to hear their stories (and those stories should be told.) But people like me, who, thankfully, received great improvement, have probably moved on with their lives and away from this board, therefore you may not hear our stories as often or vociferously narrated.

I used to check this board obsessively--the quest for scar remediation sort of consumed my life. My scarring was the result primarily of compulsive skin picking and was quite severe. After my dermabrasions and a few needling sessions to help smooth out some hypertrophic scarring (something dermabrasion is not so effective for,) I am very satisfied with my skin and almost never return to this board (it's actually painful to do so, as it reminds me of a pretty dark time in my life.) I just happened to check back today and see this post.

Dermabrasion isn't for everyone and it should not be entered into lightly or hastily--I do think it should be resorted to once other, less-invasive procedures have failed. But for me, it was tremendously helpful (and I had tried almost everything else over nearly 15 years and after several thousands of dollars.)

Anyway, you presume that because this guy has not returned to update his progress, it must be that he was disappointed. I think it's just as likely that, like me, he no longer returns because the board has served its purpose for him.

Best of luck to you and everyone else.

You said dermabrasion works but say needling did for your hypertrophic scarring. So which one is it really? What great improvements did you see with dermabrasion minus the hypertrophic scarring?

Or maybe he's happy with his skin and busy enjoying life. That he doesn't feel any need to log on to a forum about acne scarz. How you doin, happiness vampire?

Sorry for not updating. Hope you boys and girls didn't miss me too much. Had a blast holidaying in Thailand. For five glorious months. Doc warned me about not exposing my face to the sun. Otherwise my dermabraded areas will be lighter, and will take longer to eventually match my normal skin tone.

But screw that. I was gonna vacation like a rockstah. And that I did. My healing face was exposed to scorching sun on many occassions without sunblock. Which is probably why my cheeks are a shade paler. But seriously, do I sound like I'm bothered by something so trivial? Besides it's just a matter of time before my skin color evens out. No problemo. Girls can get away with this sooner using makeup. Or simpler still, just follow the doc's orders and stay outta the sun during your healing. Or apply strong sunblock if you do.

To conclude, dermasion and silicone microdroplets have worked wonders for my scars. Ignore the naysayers who hang around this scar forum all the time. Dermabrasion CAN work for some. Silicone microdroplets CAN work for some. They have for me. Very well.

Currently kicking back in Cambodia. Here are pics I just took in my hotel room. I have some zits on my chin, below the corner of my mouth. They're not scars. Traveling by land recently from Thailand to Cambodia didn't afford me much opportunity to clean my face. So spots decided to appear for company.

Maybe, I hope "he" is...but I haven't seen it often.

I also find it a bit suspicious that you registered right before you posted this. Most of us who have been here awhile have seen people who are dr's or reps for them trying to drum up business so we're very skeptical.

I'm not a 'happiness vampire' I have just been here awhile and I know what's possibgle with scarring eradication and what isn't. This is why we don't have veteran posters here but mostly newbies because the vets are REALISTIC and not falling for stuff -- but we once were naive like most of the posters here. We get it, but we're wiser. If we reply to a new fad in scar revision with any dose of realism we get yelled at. Then we see the gung ho people who didn't listen to us come back more scarred or with major complications that we warned them about.

Whatever..

I love to hear that you are soooo happy with your results. I wish you the best of luck but please protect your skin from the sun. If you hypopigment it will be permanent.

Oh, didn't notice them there earlier. Well, it looks pretty good. Congrats!

I have a theory that asian skin responds really well to TCA cross based on before/after photos I've seen here. You should research that. I'd recommend waiting a year before doing anything like that on dermabraded skin though.
