As some of you know i was diagnosed with a abnormal thyroid a year ago. There is no telling how long i have actually had it for certain that is just when i decided to get tested when i was having severe anxiety attacks. Feeling of passing out and dying.

Well i was then diagnosed with thyroiditis meaning i would end up going from hyperthyroid to hypothyroid and then back to normal. I was hyperthyroid from sep 09 to about dec 09 in which then i started going hypo according to blood results. I have been hypo since then and my doc thought i would be back to normal come my last appt which was on 26 July

Well to his suprise my hypo got worse and my antibodies toward my thryoid came back high. He said that it appears that i may have auto immune thyroid disease. He was about to prescirbe me levothyroxine but decided to wait till September to give it one more chance of normalizing before confirming and adminstering thyroid meds for the rest of my life. I still have slight anxiety symtoms, i have lately had some sleep apena, very dry mouth, shortness of breath at times, and always feel tired or heavy feeling on chest and head and of course this horrible acne around mouth and chin. Now a lot of it is in my head because i know when i try to focus on other things rather than on my breathing or my illnesses i do feel a bit better but that is hard to do.

Anyways on to the acne correlation. Now i explained my constant oily hair and tzone and he said that can be due to thyroid but acne has no correlation. I kind of beg the differ thou and i have read a lot of forums where this is true. Also seeing that nothing seems to work as far as topicals, it has to because of the root cause of the hormonal imbalance my thyroid is causing right? I am going to try azelic acid hopefully if prescirbed to me in two weeks, i gotta keep trying something, but i am thinking that until this is resolved i may never be clear.

So here are two articles i found that make me believe even more that this could be my case being that i possibly have an auto immune thyroid disease.

Thyroid issues can and do cause skin issues, not just the oily or dry skin, but also acne.

If you do start the supplementation with levothryoxine, I'm sure you'll begin to feel lots better. The thyroid affects soooo darn much, it's no wonder you're having bouts of sadness, too, besides the acne. Seriously, it WILL get better.

Taking a medicine for the rest of your life isn't really all that horrible when you consider the alternative! NOT treating the illness, and living with fatigue, malaise, general bad feeling, no energy, bad skin, bouts of depression. Really seriously, it will be ok. smile.gif Just keep working with your doctor, and reporting your symptoms to him/her.

Yes and now since my thyroid has gotten worse this past month or so my breakouts have become much worse when i do breakout than before. Deeper cysts and nodules and more of them. Usually i would only have 2 at the most to deal with now i am dealing with 4 or 5, with smaller ones as well.

I def wont mind taking it for the rest of my life it it actually helps eliminate a lot of my symptoms especially my acne, i would be the happiest person ever. All of this has been a real pain in the ass i can not stress enough how frustrating it is to have all these constant symptoms and dealing with acne too just makes it worse. I still realize thou it can be much much worse and i always try to keep that in perspective, but sometimes it is just to much and i am having one of those weeks now sad.gif

Anyway i guess i will use this thread for cont updates and wait till Sept i guess sad.gif
