So i was on accutane for like 3 years ( I ended up taking only 2 to 3 during a week, but this extended my accutane use, it was 40mg)

When I came off it i noticed my hair had become very dry and thin and brittle, it started to come back when i quit and is still coming back however my hair then became very oily. Accutane responded very well to me, cleared my skin very well, reduced hair oil but dried it out.

I began to think maybe im just very sensitive to vitamin A.

I also developed blepharitis on accutane which I believe is the seborrheic dermatitis kind.

Now i notice seborrheic dermatitis on accutane it started to develop, my lips also dried out.

The confusing part is seborrheic dermatitis is supposidly caused by oily skin, yet many people on this board and other forums report developing this with accutane use which dries you out by using vitamin a retinol.

When I came off accutane the dry lips and scaling went away. now either I did not have seborrehic dermatitis, but simply have combination skin? Or current research is incorrect saying its caused by oily skin and they dont know.

Experimenting with biotin this past year i notice with to much my skin becomes oily, like many others reported. Yet it is an effective cure for seborrheic dermatitis. When i skip my biotin dose i get flakey skin on my eyebrows, forehead, all symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis.

What I notice cuasing the flaking is vitamin A (5000 IU in my vitamin of retinol)

Being combination skinned im now trying to decipher if i have seborrheic dermatitis or just oily and then dry flakey skin.

The link between vitamin A and biotin is a very important one for me. I also have blepharitis, seborrehic dermatitis also plays a role in that.

This is what confuses me about whether current research about seborheic dermatitis is correct about it being caused by oily skin?

I noticed wikipedia has a good write up which mentions its cause is not known. But does mention it develops with vitamin A intake. Which is also what I noted, vitamin A dries out my skin or makes it less oily anyway.

Im trying to peice this all together. The only thing that does not fit is seborheic dermatitis being caused by oily skin.

Vitamin A dries out my skin=Seborheic dermatitis for me

Biotin makes my skin oily like others noted=seborheic dermatitis goes away.

If seborrheic dermatitis was due to oily skin shouldnt the opposite be true?

If anyone has any info on this last part it would be great.

This website for instance seems to associate dermatitis with dry skin. Others associate it with oily skin.
