I understand that this is a fairly new laser treatment that used radio frequency waves to stimulate the collagen in the skin while creating minimal damage to the outer dermis. I have white skin, so hyper/hypo pigmentation is not a serious concern for me.

I've done the whole AHA/Gylcolic acid peel/ microdermabrasion who-ha in the past w/ no improvement to my scars (about 8 icepick/enlarged pores and 2 depressed/rolling scars on a quarter sized patch on my right check, just above my smile line)

I had a 10 micron micr laser peel approx. 6 weeks ago. Despite an allergic reaction to the post-treatment application of Aquaphor, the only real difference w/ smooth skin. NO improvement on scars, though I do understand NOW, that it's b/c it was such a low grade peel. The tech that did it has only done the laser since Jan. 2010 and has NEVER gone higher than a 10 micron. Since reading other people's posts, I'm TERRIFIED of CO2 and pro-fractional treatments. YIKES, and from what I've read, I don't think it would work for my scars anyways sad.gif

I've ordered 2 derma-rollers ( a .5mm and a 1.0 mm from Scienta) that have yet to arrive. I've also read about other people's efforts w/ TCA cross.

I'm kinda at my wits end and I can honestly say I'm pretty depressed at my outlook on scar revision.

My current skin care is pretty simple: I wash w/ Carly's clear and smooth bar soap, followed by a 2% salycylic acid pad and BP or Neutrogena's Rapid Clear treatment on any active breakouts. Followed up w/ Mary Kay oil-free moisturizer w/ spf 15.

Thanks for reading my LONG post!

Okay, so here's the deal. I spoke over the phone w/ the aesthetician that performs the treatments at the plastic surgeons office. She's worked w/ the sublative rejuvenation laser for a while, but has never treated a patient with acne scarring before. She said they have just received a new head piece for the laser that is specifically designed for acne treatment. I explained my scarring to her. She asked if I'd be willing to be her "guinea pig" and she would provide the treatments for free if I agreed to be pictured. I figured, what the hey, why not give it a go. I'll be going in for my consultation tomorrow afternoon. I'll post updates as soon as I get home.

Got to the office today and met the really nice aesthetician, Susan. She photographed my scarring in the natural light of the foyer. TOTALLY HUMILIATION ensued, but I soldiered on.

Back in the treatment room, she wiped off the makeup from the check she was treating and applied the sonogram-like gel. (Not sure of the name, but it's NOT a numbing gel, just the same type that is used when I had my fetal ultrasounds during pregnancy).

The headpiece was so new, she still had the packaging over in the corner!!

It was NOT the sublative rejuvenation headpiece that is made up of the 64 point grid. In fact, when I asked her about the 3 different treatment levels and degrees of variance ( A,B,C 1-3) she didn't seem familiar w/ what I meant. I went on to explain information that I had gathered from this site, as well as others.

She used the Matrix IR laser (by Syneron) on me at 70/90. Pretty intense for a first time treatment. It DIDN'T hurt at all smile.gif In fact, the machine has a refrigerated tip that keeps the skin from any heat sensitivity. Having never treated a patient for acne scarring, she said she had to keep reminding herself not to move the device, but to hold it in place for at least 2 seconds after "zapping" to make sure that the skin was properly cooled. I felt NO heat whatsoever. She did a 2nd pass on my 3-4 most prominent ice-pick acne scars. She did say how difficult these types of scars are to treat, especially since you can't use fillers on them.

The whole thing was over before I even realized it!! She took 2 post-procedure pictures for documentation.

She was very interested in what I had mentioned about the other levels and we proceeded to have a good conversation. I went on to talk about needling and she let me know that they had just started offering that as a procedure as well.

I made a stop in the restroom to check out my cheek in the mirror and all I can say is, Wow. I was expecting it to be scalding red (similar to my post 10 micron micro laser peel). I had hardly any discoloration at all. Susan said the only side effect may be minimum swelling. I thought, hey, at least that will pouf out my depressed scars for a day or two smile.gif Gotta be positive!

I stopped by her desk while she continued to ask me questions. She joked, "Wow, you're going to be terrible!" I think in reference to my knowledge base of the different types of acne scar treatment (ALL thanks to y'all OF COURSE smile.gif!!) I had her google this site along w/ the Syneron site. She joked that she was going to call the rep and tell him to sign me up as a representative. smile.gif I simply explained that this is my face and I wanted to be thorough with my information before I subjected myself to an elective procedure. I'm kind of surprised me that more people don't go in more informed, but I'm not standing in judgement by any means.

I asked when I could reapply my makeup and she said, "Now". Seriously?

I had NO burning, NO pain & was comfortable during the procedure. She gave me a touch of Retin-A to apply to my skin tonight to help w/ collagen building. She did tell me, "This isn't a quick fix. Please don't expect immediate results." I knew not to so I was totally fine with that. smile.gif Since this is gratis, I'm so very thankful, and if I don't see long term results, I'll be happy that. I at least tried and can share my experiences w/ others. It's my understanding that these lasers are VERY high cost and I would hate for someone to be out thousands of dollars with little or nothing to show for it.

I go for my 2nd treatment on May 25th. I'll update then.

God Bless smile.gif

Just wanted to post another bit of information. I found a clinic that offers the Matrix RF treatments about 2 hours drive from my home. I scheduled a free consultation appointment for Friday, May 28th, following my Matrix IR treatment on May 25th. The clinician is interested in seeing my skin post-Matrix IR procedure. I explained my skin condition and she said, "Probably have to have the PS look at your skin. Ice picks have to be excised and then have dermabrasion done." YIKES! I went on to explain that my scarring is shallow and I don't know if excision is the answer for me, but I guess I'll wait and see. I just finished reading the ENTIRE (72 page) thread on TCA cross, so I'm wondering if this isn't worth a shot for me in the future if these treatments don't have good results. Dermabrasion scares the ever-livin' crud out of me :{!!

Not really sure if anyone is reading this, but I'll go ahead and post an update anyhow smile.gif

I had my 2nd Matrix IR treatment today. The aesthetician used the same settings as last time (70/90). She also decided to do the photofacial treatment on my scarring to help reduce the residual redness I have around/in the scars.

My next appointment is in another 2 weeks where we will do a Trinity (Photofacial, SkinTite, & Matrix IR).

I experienced a slight warm and stinging for about a 1/2 hour post procedure.

She had given me a sample of the Renova 60 cream (I hope I'm naming that correctly) that I have used since my initial treatment. I only had slight peeling for about 2 days w/ the cream and tolerated it well. She gave (well, I purchased) the Tretinonin .025% cream since I tolerated the other cream so well and she said I would get better results with the new cream. We'll see.

Since it's been only 2 weeks I can't honestly say I've seen any dramatic improvement, but I have noticed slight plumping in my dented scar, which may be a result of the Renova cream.

I have an consultation w/ a PS office that offers the Matrix RF this coming Friday. I'll be sure to update y'all after that treatment.

I want to mention again that I'm getting the Matrix IR treatments for free, so I'm incredibly grateful to Susan for offering this to me. This is an answered prayer, whether it works or not. But, nothing lost, nothing gained.

Best to everyone and God Bless!! wavey.gif

Sorry I didn't post sooner smile.gif Busy Memorial Day weekend w/ the fam.

Had my consultation regarding eMatrix RF on Friday. The lady I spoke w/ was very informative and was able to show me ACTUAL clients of hers that she has worked on since the office added the Matrix RF handpiece to the practice. This is a nice change from all the promotional literature that the companies distribute.

Since I had just had my 2nd Matrix IR treatment the Tuesday prior, she said that I would have to wait a minimum of 3 weeks to have my RF tx. She was VERY thorough w/ her questions and answers in the time we were together.

I was only interested in working on the small patch of compacted scarred pores and shallow ice-pick scarring on my right cheek. She went on to ask if I wanted anything done on my left cheek. Since that's not a concern I told her I really wasn't bothered my the 1-2 scars on that side. She said that an all over tx is normally $500, but that to just do spot tx's is $250. She asked again about my left cheek and I asked if that would cost more. She replied, "Nope, I'd do both cheeks for $250." That made me happy. This way I'll "match" smile.gif

She went on to explain that I would need anywhere from 3-6 tx's. I appreciated her honesty in that 3 may or may not be enough, but I may not need a full 6 either. This was helpful for my ability to financially save for additional procedures.

I told her that my expectations are low and that I would be happy w/ a 50% improvement at best. We both agreed that keeping expectations realistic is a key for success.

I left by telling her that I would need to go over my calendar and discuss it w/ my hubby (who is on board, but doesn't think I have any issues that need working on smile.gif If I could only see myself w/ HIS eyes!!) I will probably have the treatment June 21st. Can't risk working at my church VBS w/ out makeup and a fine grid of itty bitty scabs covering my cheeks! That would scare the kiddos for sure!

Thanks for taking the time to read my mini-novels regarding all this mess.

BTW: The Matrix IR treatments I've had have gone well, and unless my eyes are playing tricks on me, I think I've seen a touch difference in the MINIMAL filling out of my scars. Also, the Matrix ST treatment that was done for discoloration was surprising. After about 2 days I saw what appeared to be miniscule blackheads under the surface of my skin. After asking on Friday, I found out that those were actually melanin from past scars/sun damage that was being brought to the surface. Most have sloughed off already. Good times smile.gif

Though I intend to continue to post my results here, since it's scarring I'm treating, I've subscribed to the thread "having eMatrix Sublative Rejuvenation done" in the Scar Treatment forum. Others who have had this treatment done are posting there and I felt it would provide more helpful information for anyone that was doing research.

Hope this helps smile.gif (That is, if anyone is actually reading this thread! I'm starting to feel like the Lone Ranger here!!)

Brace yourselves, I'm "wordy" and like to be thorough in my descriptions. Especially since there is relatively little out there (besides blatant marketing) about Matrix RF treatments.

Okay troops. I'm back from my first Matrix RF treatment (also called Sublative Rejuvenation)

Got there and Jessica (the esthetician) removed my makeup and used a clarisonic brush and cleaned my skin. She then applied a topical numbing cream and then reapplied it after 15 minutes, for a total of 30 minutes.

She removed the numbing cream w/ a 90% isopropyl alcohol solution to make sure the skin was "super duper clean and dry"!

We discussed the treatment depth prior to the application of the creams. The Matrix RF comes in three treatment depth levels (A, B, & C) with varying degrees of microjoules per level. I had expected, and asked for the Level C, which is the strongest and ablates the deepest. Jessica said that she had planned to start off at the B level. Since this was my first laser treatment w/ her and I have only mild scarring, she didn't want to go for the big guns right off the bat. She also told me that the company is now suggesting Level B for acne scarring, as it creates the most coagulation at that level and that is supposed to be better for remodeling acne scars.

Since I didn't want to risk complications or further injury, we proceeded w/ Treatment Level B at 48 mj.

I felt hardly ANYTHING! That numbing cream is the bomb-diggety. Jessica and I used a hand mirror before treatment to make sure we were on the same page as to where my scars are that I wanted to treat. We even stopped 1/2 way through to make sure she was getting coverage to my expectations. smile.gif There was a VERY slight burning smell, similar to that of scorching your hair with a curling iron. Nothing grotesque by any means.

The whole treatment lasted less than 15 minutes. She applied a soothing balm and a sun screen. I took a gander at my face immediately after and was shocked that I wasn't as red as I was after I had had a micro laser peel.

My face stayed numb for about 2 1/2 more hours.

I'm supposed to apply a cream she gave me 3-4 times a day 6-8 hours post procedure and I can put on loose mineral powder 24hours post, to help with any residual redness. My husband laughed when he saw me and said, "Heck, I'm redder than you are." I do have some puffiness and Jessica told me that I may continue to become redder and slightly swell more.

She usually sees patients 2-3 days after a treatment, but since I live 2 hours away, she wants me to snap photos and email them to her so she can monitor my progress. I appreciate her thoroughness and caring. She told me, "I'm treating you the way I'd want to be treated myself." Gotta love the Golden Rule.

I'll continue to post updates as the days roll along. Please feel free to ask any questions I may not have covered. I know what it's like to not be able to find the information your searching for.

Recap: I have small/shallow icepick scaring mostly in a couple small patches on my cheeks. We only treated my cheeks at the cost of $250 total. I'm having at least 3 treatments, spaced 4 weeks apart. She is going to do my 4th treatment for free. She sprung that one on me today! All I gotta say to that. "God is so good and prayer works." eusa_angel.gif

Day 2 update.

My skin , where it was treated, was "oozing" last night, but nothing awful. I wasn't able to wash my face until this morning. I used Cetaphil. The "crust" (good grief this sounds gross) that had formed over night from the weeping of the skin was completely washed off in the shower. I put on the PCA Silkcoat Balm and PCA sunscreen that she gave me to use. I'm SLIGHTLY more swollen today. I kinda think it's cute. I look like I have rosy red "baby" cheeks. As always, trying to be positive.

My aesthetician called me this afternoon to check in on me biggrin.gif She said that the weeping of the skin can be a side effect, but tends not to be overly common. Lucky me!

My skin is comfortable and not nearly as painful as post micro laser peel.

I can barely see the grid marks. I choose not to put on any makeup today as I didn't plan on rolling out of my house for any wild parties. I was told to use ONLY talc free, mineral based powders and not to use any liquid makeup until after the scabs have fallen off.

I haven't experienced any of the itching that can be a possible side effect. Jessica did tell me to only use the hydrocortizone cream (PCA Apres Peel) if it was unbearable. She said that the swelling is ideal and any reduction of it ahead of the skin's normal healing time is not going to be beneficial.

My skin, where treated, has a rough texture. Similar to fine grain sandpaper. I developed one itsy-bitsy whitehead, which Jessica explained is probably from the application of the Silkcoat balm.

I'm taking all my regular vitamins and drinking bucket loads of water. Don't know if that will speed up healing, but hey, can't hurt.

I'll update again tomorrow smile.gif
God Bless Y'all eusa_angel.gif

Day 3
And the Matrix RF saga continues smile.gif

Not much change today. I'm less "puffy" and the redness continues to decrease. Since the kiddos were harassing the hubby and I about seeing Toy Story 3, I went ahead an applied some of my mineral powder so I'd feel more comfortable out in public.

The makeup works great at disguising the redness, but if you get right up in my grill, you can see the matrix dots from the treatment. Some of the dots (scabs really, but doesn't "dots" sound better?) are ready to flake off, but I'm doing my absolute darndest to leave those little fellers alone.

I've had a tad more itchiness today so it's difficult to not scratch. However, it's nothing I can't put up with.

I'm supposed to snap some photos to send to my aesthetician, Jessica, today and MAYBE, just MAYBE, I'll post them.

Hope all is well out there in the community and everyone is finding positive solutions.

God Bless Y'all and I'll post again tomorrow.

Day 4 update:

I'm totally flaking out! wacko.gif

Less redness today and the swelling is almost completely gone. It's SUPER hard to not want to pull off these little flakies, but I shall resist!

I emailed pics to my aesthetician and she said, according to my pics, that my redness was looking good and I appeared to be healing well.

I have to go do a jewelry show at an office tomorrow, so this should be interesting. Maybe the ladies will be so bedazzled by all the jewelry they won't notice my "grid" marks under my powder. wink.gif

I'll be back to post again tomorrow!

God Bless!

Day 5 update:

I'd say approximately 50% of my lil' scabbies have fallen off. The redness is fainter by the day and the swelling is gone. However, I will note that you can still see the grid stamp if you look at the right side of my face.

It's been difficult not to scratch when the itchiness gets uncomfortable. But again, I must stress that it's not intolerable itchiness. I'm aware it's because my skin is healing, but I have to constantly remind myself not to scratch, as I don't want to prematurely pull off any scabs.

The powder worked great at covering up my complexion and no one gave me any crazy stares while I was at my jewelry show. I even braved a trip to Target and took a gander at my skin in the dressing room lighting (horrid to say the least). Not too bad at all.

I wish I had more dramatic results to post, but I knew going into this that results are NOT immediate and any improvement I'm seeing right now is due to micro swelling. I wish that weren't the case, but such is life!

Hope everyone out there is doing fantastic and I'll be back tomorrow with even less dramatic results!!! eusa_dance.gif

God Bless!

Day 6

Most redness is gone, for the most part, and the swelling is gone as well.

Not as itchy today and I would say that the majority of the scabs have flaked off. There's a stubborn patch on my left cheek that still hasn't sloughed off, but I'm cool with that.

Not much else to report. Wish I could add some more insight. My next treatment in July 19th. I guess I'll just update again after that treatment.

I seriously don't think anyone is reading this, but I hope I've helped spread some info to the .org community.

God Bless and I'll begin posting again after my 2nd treatment or if I notice any changes as a result of this 1st treatment smile.gif

Just wanted to give another quick update.

No real changes from Day 6 except that my skin is returning to normal. I had a rough texture to the treatment areas for a few days, which I'm assuming was the dead skin being sloughed off.

That is no longer an issue and all redness is gone. I will say, some PIH I had on a few old spots is gone or 80% gone in my troubled areas. So, hey, that's a plus smile.gif

Still have micro swelling that allows my lil' ice picks to look less deep, so I'm cool with that too. Not sure how long that will last, but I'm enjoying it. The scars are still visible, just not a sharp looking.

I wanted to post especially to update that I had returned to my regular skin care regime with no problems. Yesterday I went back to using my reg. moisturizer (Mary Kay Timewise Oil Free w/ spf 15 mixed with Philosophy Power Booster Vit. C powder) and I used a lil' bit of liquid mineral concealer.

I washed my face last night with my regular glycerin bar soap from Carly's Clear and Smooth. I then followed that up with a swipe of Neutrogena Rapid Clear 2% salicylic acid pads, Philosophy's "When Hope is Not Enough" Vit C & E serum and my .025% tretinonin cream. I woke up this morning with nice skin that was a touch oiler than it's been in the past week which is common when I use the retin a cream.

So, I guess I'm back to the ol' skincare grind.

Hope this helps & God Bless eusa_angel.gif

Hi everyone!

I could really use some help/advice on eMatrix! Thank you to all who posted details on their experiences, you are doing some good for those of us in the same position looking for a solution.

Here's my deal--
I live in NYC and I have been researching options for a while, tried micros and skin fading treatments etc. I have a few scars on each cheek, but clustered and casting noticeable shadows even w/ makeup. I found a TOP dermatologist, featured on TV shows, magazine stories, and heard as a recommendation from a friend of a friend, and I thought this was the safest way to go. Problem is, this doctor barely gives you the time of day and hardly discussed the treatment w/ me during consultation. This is a lot of money for me (I will be paying on credit!) and I don't want to waste any more on ineffective treatments. I got impatient and despite my negative gut feeling on doctor's lack of attention, I booked the first eMatrix session so I could be on the road to better skin ASAP. I figured that this doctor would get great results, who cares about the experience.

First treatment was about 6 weeks ago. Hardly any improvement noticeable. Had the red dots on my face but no peeling. I read on here that the doctors are offering numbing creams--I was not even aware you could use one! I came in, simply washed my face, assistant used special toner to dry my face, and doctor comes in and does the whole thing in about 5 min. The treatment was more painful than I thought. I was not told what my settings are and the dermatologist gets defensive when I ask questions. One treatment was $1500 (flat rate for face, and my cheeks, chin, forehead, and low undereye were lasered), which is sooo much money to me, but up to $2000 a treatment is apparently typical in NYC area. There was no follow up contact by dermatologist.

So now I'm at this almost 6 week mark (I was told to come back after 4-6 weeks)---

1) Does anyone know if you MUST follow this timeline precisely to get good results, or if I can postpone treatment until I figure out a better plan?
2) Is it safe to continue treatments with a different dermatologist or with a physician's assistant at American Laser Centers (there is a location that now has eMatrix and I was offered a huge discount)? I would do this to save $ and get better attention. I do not know specific settings of laser, but was told they weren't very high and didn't see results yet.

PLEASE ANY HELP IS SO MUCH APPRECIATED! Thank you!

Just came across your thread on the sublative RF. I am having my first treatment tomorrow (July 20). All in all, how pleased are you with the results? Was it worth it? I am paying $450 per treatment (both cheeks, fairly bad acne scarring). I've done the dermabrasion, etc. & lastly perlane injectable fillers (w/slightly good results). I'm worried about the oozing/flaking, & being able to see the grid marks. How long was it before you could resume normal makeup usage? Thanks for any info you can give me!

Hello all!

I'm going to do my best to inform y'all of my 2nd treatment and at the same time answer some of the questions that were posted. I apologize in advance if I'm unable to answer the questions to your satisfaction, but I check this thread regularly during my post-treatment healing and I'll be posting every day for the 1st week. PLEASE feel free to ask questions or offer advice as it seems we all need accurate, first hand accounts of the eMatrix treatment.

I'm back from my 2nd eMatrix Sublative Rejuvenation treatment. My last treatment was over 4 weeks ago, which was actually one week longer than recommended, but necessary due to a business trip I had to take. Jessica, my aesthetician, greeted me and then gave me the once over. She asked if I had seen any difference and I told her I felt there had been some nominal improvement, but I didn't know if that was just because I WANTED there to be improvement. She started checking my closely and got a big smile on her face. She said, "I do see improvement!" I laughed and asked if she was just trying to con me out of more money for additional treatments! Any hoo, I really like her and she has proven to be caring and take the time to answer all my questions and give me honest answers.

We went up to a more aggressive treatment level this time. My 1st was done at Level B, Treatment 2 (48 mj) and today's was Level C, Treatment 2 (not sure of the exact microjoule setting, but I'm going to try and look for it). If you've read my prior posts, you'll understand why we started more conservatively.

Protocol was the same, she removed my makeup, cleaned my face w/ the Clairsonic, applied topical numbing cream, brought me a water (did I mention how awesome I think the clinic and staff are smile.gif ) and chatted w/ me while the cream took effect.

We looked at my photos from my 1st procedure and compared those w/ the ones I emailed to her on day 3 post treatment. She removed the cream after 30 minutes, snapped new photos and we were on our way.

The treatment lasted approx 10 minutes. She again only did my cheeks where I have some mild scarring (cost: $250 total). She stacked the tx. in a couple of spots on each cheek (Not directly on top of an already treated spot, but slightly off center of the original "stamp" to provide a tighter grid work and perhaps fill in a couple places where there wasn't skin contact) It's important to make sure the grid stamps and kept uniform and tightly spaced together. This is precisely what she does.

She applied sunscreen and snapped a couple more post-treatment photos. She warned I would be a little redder this time due to a more aggressive treatment level. I'm to email more photos on Thursday and I know she'll call me tomorrow to check on me.

As far as questions about the grid marks/oozing/recovery time, I covered that in my prior posts. I only had oozing in a few tiny areas the 1st night of my treatment and since you can't wash your face the 1st night, it didn't come off until my morning shower. The tiny (and I do mean tiny) grid mark scabs were barely noticeable under the pressed powder makeup I was able to wear the day after my treatment. I chose not to wear makeup if I was home, but did apply pressed mineral powder to my face when I took my children to the movies 3 days after and no one gave me any wacky looks. I had a friend stop by my house the 2nd day after treatment and she commented that I didn't look bad at all. I only had on some eye makeup at the time, but I still had slight swelling and redness. Not much different than a sunburned appearance.

As far as other makeup goes, I was told not to use any liquid makeup (foundation or concealers) until all the scabs had flaked off. I was diligent with that as I was told it could cause additional break outs. I only used pressed powder until the weekend because most of my flakes were off by Friday night (treatment was Monday morning). I use Physician's Formula pressed mineral powder in Natural and it works like a dream covering up redness. I'm considered a Fitz 2-3. I tan easily, but have been avoiding the sun like the devil himself and I'm now rather fair.

Jessica told me that since my skin responded well to the initial treatment I can use an exfoliating scrub she gave me for use on Friday to help slough off any stubborn scabbies. However, that is only because she is familiar with my skin and my treatment plan. I wouldn't recommend anyone else do this without prior consultation with their provider. This is just based on hers and my experience w/ my treatment and my skin's response.

I've had NO pain, itchiness, tightness or any other adverse reactions thus far. My face has swelled as the day has progressed (treatment at 11 am, currently 9 pm) and the redness is a touch more pronounced, but nothing that would scare small children and pets.

Well, that's pretty much day 1 of treatment 2 in a nutshell. I'll be back to post updates tomorrow for the curious folks out there. Hope this helps, and as always God Bless! eusa_angel.gif
