I have had acne for five years (due to polycystic ovarian syndrome), and when it was at it's worse point was when I was contstantly washing my face, or putting harsh topical gels on which dry out the skin, not only was my oil production going crazy to over compensate for my actions....Not only does oil break down oil while moisturising, it also provides the skin with vitamins and tricks the skin cells into thinking there is enough oil already.

Just a word to the wise: washing has no effect on the amount of sebum the sebaceous glands produce, nor does oil applied topically to the skin "trick" the sebaceous glands into thinking they've produced enough sebum. Those are just Urban Myths which have been debunked numerous times on this forum.

I really don't believe that. I used to wash my hair daily just because it would get so greasy if I didn't. Eventually I stopped washing it for like 3 weeks and surprisingly my hair wasn't greasy. Our bodies naturally produce enough oil to keep our skin and hair moisturized and water-proof. Now I wash something like twice or three times a week and my skin has never looked better and is never greasy.

The less I wash my face, the less oily it gets.

Sebum only gets onto hair in the first place because it gets _tracked_ onto hair, like when you scratch your head, comb or brush your hair, sleep on a pillow, etc (yes, there was an actual study published in a medical journal which examined that issue very carefully). If you are very very careful about doing those things, you can minimize how "greasy" your hair gets. I strongly suspect that THAT is the reason you've seen so little oil lately: you've probably been more careful doing those things, maybe even unconsciously.

LOL! Sorry, but I don't believe you! smile.gif If you _do_ want me to believe you, you'll have to do the same test that _I_ did a few years ago: I took daily Sebutape readings on my skin for several days in a row (if I remember correctly, it was for something like 10-12 days in a row), without washing my skin in between; after that, I scanned all of the test-strips together, and posted the picture right here on this forum for everybody to see with their own two eyes! As I expected, along with the more reasonable readers here, the photos clearly showed a gradually increasing level of sebum over the entire 10-12 day period that I did the experiment in! Now let's see YOU do the same thing! biggrin.gif

Everybody's different. Tests on you or any minorities that have done scientifically doesn't prove anything. There is no scientific answer to this. Why do you think people are keep posting that they produce less oil by washing or putting moisturizer on...
I'm not saying I agree with this theory but you should seriously stop demoralizing others.

People aren't so different that some of them have sebaceous glands that work in a COMPLETELY different fashion as those of others! eusa_wall.gif

There's no scientific answer to this?? Are you joking??? Do you not believe the exhaustive efforts of all the hardworking doctors and scientists who have patiently examined these issues over and over and over?

I think you meant to ask why it is that people post that they produce less oil when they wash LESS. You seem to be relatively new here, and I've already posted a number of times what I consider to be the main reason for why they would believe such an odd claim. I don't feel like going into it again for the umpteenth time.

Suffice it to say that if anybody really believes something that weird, I invite them to do what _I_ did more than once on this forum, and put it to the test with Sebutape Skin Indicators. If they can prove that claim scientifically with Sebutape, then I'm much more likely to believe them. But I'm not holding my breath while I'm waiting for that test to happen.

I'm not DE-moralizing them, I'm MORALIZING them, by showing them how to do scientific tests of the claims they're making.
