Hi Everyone,
This is the first time I have ever posted on a forum, which I hope serves as proof of the faith I hold in this regimen. I am 22, male, and have had acne since beginning highschool. My acne is on my face and back. Consequently over the past seven years I have been on:
Sulfameth
Minocycline
Clindamycin
Retin-A
Differin
Brevoxyl (sp?)
Proactiv
Over the past year my acne has changed from being filled with pus (or whatever you want to call the gunk inside) to being strictly cystic. When I get a pimple they are hard lumps that aren’t full of anything, and typically take a long time to go away often leaving hard lumps/cysts under my skin. My doctor finally advised me to go on Accutane. I found myself unsure of what to do, and frankly, scared after reading the reviews on this website. Permanent hair loss and joint damage, thanks but no. I don’t mean to discredit Accutane and those who have had a positive experience with it, but I felt that there had to be another way.
I began researching homeopathy and natural acne cures as an alternative to Accutance. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? So my journey began at the local health food store. What follows is everything that I have been taking.
Michaels Ultimate Detox and Cleanse (2 week program, very cheap, works wonders)
Twinlab Mens Ultra Daily (they make a women’s version too)
Twinlab Zinc Caps (1 pill 3x a day)
Calcarea Sulphurica (5 tablets 3x a day, Boiron brand, dilution 6C)
Acidophilus (just find a brand with the most active bacteria)
Nystatin cream
Cetaphil lotion
PanOxyl Creamy Wash
PanOxyl Lotion/Cream (10% benzyl peroxide)
About 100 ounces of water daily.
After a week on this program I was nothing less than shocked. It is now a month later and my acne has drastically reduced. Before I would rate my acne at a 7/10 and now I would say it is a 2/10. This regimen has reduced my acne to a level that I can live with and does not cause me social anxiety. If you are where I was a month ago and looking to avoid Accutane, or any other drugs for that matter, please give this regimen a try as it has worked wonders for me.
I am not sure if it is one thing that is working for me, or a combination. However, I do feel that there are a few winners among this group. I place much of the praise on calcarea sulphurica. You can order this on amazon (along with most everything else I mentioned) in a bulk pack. I use a dilution of 6C. Calcarea Sulphurica falls under the homeopathic designation of ‘Cell Salts’, which you can read about here:
Also, I have noticed that the nystatin cream really helps to clear up any pimples I currently have. This is only available by prescription, but is readily available through Canadian online pharmacies. For those of you who don’t know, nystatin is an antifungal cream. I really believe it has played a crucial role in clearing my skin.
Lastly, I feel that the Acidophilus has played a huge part. My girlfriend was reading a homeopathic book on acne, which explained that when we are on antibiotics for expended periods of time it kills the good bacteria along with the bad. Consequently our bacteria levels become unbalanced and the bad bacteria can take over causing a rebound effect of pimples. The Acidophilus restores the good bacteria to your system.
I use the PanOxyl on my face and back every time I shower (once or twice a day), and the PanOxyl peroxide cream on my face and back about every third day to avoid over drying, and the nystatin the rest of the time. If I get too dry I use the cetaphil.
I should also note that I cut dairy out of my diet, except for cultured yogurt.
I am in no way claiming to have the holy grail of acne cures, I am simply sharing a regimen that has literally changed my life. I won’t lie; I still have pimples, but my acne is drastically reduced from where it was a month ago. If you are faced with the prospect of going on a harsh drug like Accutane, I urge you to give this a try.
Please feel free to ask any questions, and don’t hesitate to let me know your thoughts.
Best,
R
Great Success with my Anti-Accutane Regimen
