Extremely oily face - Low dose of isotretinoin?

I was on isotretinoin last year for six months (actually it's been a year since I finished the course)
My acne wasn't cured completely since I still break out, but it was improved. The thing is that now I'm extremely oily. I wash my face and after two hours my skin starts to produce oil A LOT. And then I break out. It's so annoying since I'm a boy and have used EVERYTHING to deal with it.
Do you think a low dose of isotretinoin (about 5mg or 10 mg per day) could eliminate oil and the break outs ? I will discuss it with my derm but I would like your opinion too. Has anyone of you tried this kind of treatment for oily face?
Do you think this will work ?

That's good man. So it works, isn't it?

I took 5mg/week. That did not work, nor did 10mg/week. 5mg/day works well. But I think that would be too much for a maintenance program. I've been on accutane 3x in my life. Unfortunately, the acne always comes back.

Certainly low dose Iso can help, but its a balance of how much and for how long vs the side effects. Really you need to get bloodwork done regular as well.
I would say that if you do go down this route, take the opportunity to change other things like your diet as well. Cut out all of the processed stuff, caffiene, sugar, replace with healthy veg & fibre and slowly try to reduce the low dose even further, to maybe the point when you can come off it. If you don't, you'll just be in the same position for years.

Fuck the side effects. I am sick of having my life dominated by my oil glands.
My doc has prescribed me 10 mg per day. I would have preferred a higher dose, but I guess he knows what he's doing. Fortunately I live in country where you can get hold of basically anything over the counter if you are willing to pay. If 10 mg doesn't show any effect after a couple of months and my monthly blood tests are ok, I will increase the dose to 20 mg.
Let's wait and see.
I took my first tablet today.
I will keep you all posted about my progress. I have great hopes in this drug. I hope this time I won't be disappointed. It seems the right approach to me: tackle the problem at the root.

My thinking circa 2003, fuck the side effects. Too bad life doesn't get along with isotretinoin either.
Excuse me, I'll go reach for ibuprofen now, I'm sick of having my life dominated by pain. I suppose I should look up the side effects of long term ibuprofen use some day.

Radikal, I have read about your experience with Isotretinoin and I can understand that this kind of talk annoys you. As your case shows, the side effects of this drug can be very serious. The decision to take this medication should obviously not be taken light-heartedly. My hope is that your negative experience with this drug has very much to do with the fact that you took high doses for a very long time. To be honest, I cannot understand how your dermatologist could put you on this drug for 6 or 7 times knowing the risks involved. I certainly do not intend to take this drug more than 2 times. By the way, I do feel that very oily skin justifies a treatment with this drug. Super oily skin has affected my quality of life in the same way as my acne did in my teens.
Anyway, here my experience with the drug up to now.
I need to mention that I have increased my dose from 10 mg to 20 mg per day. I believe the lower the dose, the greater the likelihood of my oily skin returning after the treatment. There appears to be scientific evidence that supports this thinking, i.e. that higher doses are more likely to have a lasting effect than loser doses.
My plan is to first try this low-dose treatment and, if the oil does return, hopefully to a lesser extent, see whether I can keep it under control with topical treatment.
Should oil production return to the same extent, I may consider an additional high-dose treatment.
I have just woken up, had breakfast and taken my fourth tablet.
When I woke up I couldn't resist to run my finger over my nose. I was quite astonished not to see the usual film of grease on my finger. The drug is clearly kicking in: my skin is starting to dry out. I am pretty confident that even this fairly low dose will help me clear up my face, at least temporarily.
As for side effects, nothing to mention so far.

Actually I am experiencing some minor side effects. Since I have been on the drug, I have had an ongoing headache. Not really very bad, but I do hope it will stop soon. On the first day I did't think it had anything to do with the drug, but now I'm pretty sure it has.
I also have very dry lips and somewhat dry eyes, but that's easy to keep under control with lip balm and eye drops.
Oil production has basically stopped. My nose does still get oily, but that's simply because I have lots of blackheads and it will take a time before the pores are fully cleared.
In any case, I am very satisfied. I cannot explain how nice it is not to feel greasy and dirty all the time.
