Hi this is my first time posting and I’d thought I’d share my thoughts on Oxy’s BP cream.

Some Background Info:

I’m 23 now and have had really stubborn severe acne since my teens. I’ve been on three different kinds of antibiotic none of which managed to clear up my skin fully but I found Cefalexin with dan’s regiment worked well. However I’ve just stopped taking Cefalexin, after being on it for nearly two years I thought it was time to stop. Mainly due to antibiotic resistance fears and finding it a pain having to go to my GP every three months or so asking for more, however it was cool not having any kind of cold or flu for 2 years!

At the moment I’m doing ok, well my face is, my back is going through a pretty server break out but I think(hope) it’ll clear up after getting off the shock of coming of the antibiotics.

Anyhow before I’d came off the antibiotics like many people I used to love Dan’s products (still do), would order them from America and wince every time I realised how much it cost. And in fact I am still waiting for a delivery, it’s been five months now!! There’s £70 I’ll never see again. (I have emailed acne.org with no response if anyone has had any experience in getting refunds for lost orders I would I greatly appreciate any advice).

Oxy BP:

So I tried pan oxyl and like most people found it worked but was very crude and would dry my skin a lot. Then I started using Oxy On The Spot 2.5% BP. I’ve found it’s worked really well – dare I say better than Dan’s BP – because I’ve found it clears up spots just as well as Dan’s but doesn’t dry my skin out as much.

One of the best points about it is that it’s really easy to get hold of. I’ve seen it for sale, off the shelf, in boots, superdrug and some supermarkets which is great as you don’t need to worry about ordering it in time or asking behind a counter for it. However it’s not as cheap as pan oxyl, from boots its £5 for a tiny 20g tube which is a bit crap. I find one tube lasts about a week so I’m not sure really how that works out compared to ordering dan’s stuff, but at least it doesn’t get lost in the post.

I also use their ‘daily face wash’ cleanser which I’ve found works well but doesn’t particularly stand out compared to anything else I’ve used. I have also just got their ‘zit blitz gel’ and I am excited to see how well that works. I guess I should mention the other stuff I use which is: superdrug cocoa butter moisturiser, pan oxyl 10% as a ‘spot zapper’ and I also use Ibuprofen 5% gel which I find reduces breakouts well. Thanks to temp123 for info on the Ibuprofen gel.

It’s probably also worth mentioning that all of the Oxy range has ‘Engineered for male skin’ all over it, as a male not a problem for me, however I think this may be more a marketing gimmick as I’ve the same range for sale in America without any mention of male skin. If you go on their website they seem to say it’s for male skin as male skin has bigger pores that can get clogged more (which I think is rather a stupid generalisation) and if you following this reasoning then supposedly it should work even better for female skin.

Sorry this was an epic post, but I just thought it was nice to finally a range of off the shelf acne products actually work and has useful products like BP, instead making useless products and spending all their time on seeing how shiny they can make their packaging (aka Clearasil).

I also found OXY's BP to be the best that i've tried, but it's so expensive. It's about twice what Quinoderm costs.

I'd be careful with that cocoa butter moisturiser, if i was you. Cocoa Butter is highly comedogenic. It's meant to be good for scars, but i would never dare try it.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with us chris. Can you order this Oxy stuff online? I know it's a weird thing to ask since the reason you love it is because you DON'T have to order it, but I'm not from the UK so I can't get it in stores. Would be fun to try the stuff.

By the way, if you're not shy then I think it's possible to give Dan a call and sort out this order issue. Not sure insurance is included when you order but if it is, you should get your money back.

I always found that Brevoxyl was fairly cheap and not harsh in the slightest. I used Panoxyl several years ago and it left me very red.

Not a fan of pan oxyl either. I've been using Oxy on the spot 2.5% for years, it is expenisve but worth it. Boots often have a promotion where you can get two for £5, so I tend to stock up then.

I also use Oxy 10 cream at night, it's a lot stronger, so you have to be careful not to put too much on otherwise you end up really red dry and flaky. But I find the combination of the 2.5% in the morning and 10% at night really works for me.

I also use Palmers cocoa butter as a moisturiser, but I actually use a strong one meant for hands and feet. Again, I've been using it for years. It helps fade marks and combat the dryness from the BP. I was concerned a while ago whether it was too oily for my skin and making the problem worse, so i stopped using it, but found absolutely no difference in spots, just a lot dryer!!! At £1.79 aswell it's very reasonable for a moisturiser.

I've recently started jojoba oil and aha for the red marks and scars, and finding those working really well now too. Plus they make your skin really nice and glowy...

If it works well and you can afford it, then you should get it. But you're still going to be paying five times more for those small tubes than you would if you got Dan's bulk BP. It's not the best thing on the market, but you sure do get a hell of a lot of it.

RE. The lost BP - same thing happened to me, and the customer service I thought was excellent. Replied quickly and when it didn't turn up after a certain date they sent me not one (which is what I originally ordered), but TWO bottles of the BP to me free of charge. Maybe you're contacting the wrong email or something?
