Dan's BP - As good as it used to be? Has it Changed?

well my batch is also 9341, but maybe that's a regular number on it?!!! I bought mine and had it delivered to me when I was in New York recently (I live in Scotland).
I couldn't agree with you more Davey in everything your saying. The smell doesn't really bother me about it - in fact when I first put it on I kind of liked it (my wife always hated the smell of the older stuff, and was a bit of a passion killer if you know what I mean!! ;-) )
Like you Davey, I used to take a good generous 'finger length' of BP and that would be enough. This time I'm finding that about 3/4 pumps of the stuff is needed and that's waaaay more than I ever used before. If I ever used that amount on my face before, then my skin would have been like a red indian! But even now if I use a lot of it and I do mean 'a lot' I'm not getting anywhere near that tingling/very mild burning sensation that I used to get and knew that it was working.
If any of Dan's people are reading this thread I'd really appreciate it if they could let us know what's happened with it. I'll probably contact them if we don't hear anything.
fingers crossed!

astrobhoy,
9341 is definitely the batch number, and not just a generic number. This is proven here, in one of Dan's images:

3 or 4 pumps you say? Blimey, that is a lot. I used to use 2 of the last stuff to keep me clear. I really am starting to think there is something up with this batch, and now Lvth (thanks for responding) has the same batch and the same problem.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? If so could you please post your batch number?

Thanks beefree.
Also, if anyone who has batch 9341, and is finding it as good, or better than previous batches, could they let us know too please?

Well right now I'm about to go to bed, and then I'm away for the weekend. So I was planning on waiting to see if any other replies come in over that period, and then asking Brandy if she would be so kind as to suggest a next move. Perhaps Dan could be notified that there is an issue reported by a (so far) small group of users.
Regardless of anything, I am going to continue carrying out the regimen correctly, and monitoring my skin. We need to give the BP a proper chance, and quite honestly I haven't been using this batch that long yet (although I am fairly certain it has been long enough to know something isn't right).
Cheers,
DB

The product may have changed before this batch number came out, so again, would be good to hear from anyone about previous batches (Nov 09 - Feb 10?) as It was well over a year ago since my last batch which worked fine.

I was just reading your post and noticed that i'm having the same problem. I just received my product and have been using it for 5 days, but my skin seems to be getting worst. My batch # is 93411211. this is my first time using the product so i wasn't sure if this was normal or not, but i have broken out tremedously since adding this to my regi. i really hope that this changes cuz i was super excited to try out the product and was hoping for better results

Hi TeeGee, thanks for posting. With you just starting the regime then it's possible that this is fairly normal getting the breakout, regardless of the old batch or the new. Sometimes the BP seems to draw the acne out at the early stages of using, but the great thing about it is that in continuously using it, it also helps to dissipate the acne quickly.
As Davey said earlier, if you had bit of a breakout with spots, then zapping it with a fair amount of BP overnight really brought it down considerably - this batch just doesn't appear to do that anymore, and we're not sure why. It's extremely disappointing as the older stuff worked great.
If I were you I'd stick with it until your bottle runs out, and then decide if it works for you or not.
If it doesn't work for you and your still breaking out, then it could possibly be down to this new 'weaker' stuff.

That said, I'm currently using BP from batch 9431 (exp. 12/11), and it's been working just fine for me. Yes, it does smell a bit different than my last bottle of BP, but the effects are the same.
Since several of you seem concerned, I'll let Dan know what's up and see what I can find out.

Like the OP, I would buy one or two large bottles and they would always last me a year or more. Usually the only reason I even reordered is because my bottles went past the expiration date. I can tell you every time I reordered something changed in the formula.
I still have one of my old bottles. It's the light blue bottle with the dots on it, expiration 8/09. The second ingredient in the formula is propylene glycol. In my new bottle the second ingredient is butylene glycol. I'm not sure why it was changed as the old formula worked great. Some people do question the safety of propylene glycol but it seems like it has a fine safety record when used topically.
Propylene glycol itself seems to have some antibacterial and carrier properties that could enhance the effectiveness of the BP. That could be why the new formula is less effective. There is also the possibility of the butylene causing irritation directly due to personal sensitivity.
Personally I just started using BP again so it is too early for me to say whether this new formula is better or worse. At first impression I can say that it does not go on nearly as well as the old formula.
However the odds of Dan throwing out all of the current stock and going back to the old formula are nil.

i stopped using while on a course of Accutane but have been using it again for about a year now everyday and it was working great.
I noticed when using my new order of bp 16oz pump pack batch#9302 it didnt work so well and went on different unlike the previous supply, like i needed to apply way more to get it to work and even then i was breaking out
So to be sure i decided to order more bp this time in a tube hoping to get a different batch which i did batch 9431.This seemed to be much more effective,
Although 3 times now after using it for about 2 weeks my skin becomes extremely irratated and burnt looking to the point where i have to stop using bp for a few days or a week
I have been using less and less each time to try and ease this effect but this still continues to happen. This being the third time this has happened using this batch is concerning
now i have had to stop using bp so my skin can get back to normal
Maybe its just stonger as it is fresher but maybe this is'nt such a good thing
this is just my experience i hope i can successfully use Dans bp again as it has been a very reliable product, but my progress has gone off track latley and the only thing i can bring it down to would be the bp as everything else has been done the same
Thanks
Graham

Would appreciate you doing that, thanks.
Agreed, but hopefully if there's any way of correcting this for future batches and taking it back closer to the winning formula that he had before, then we'll all be happy.
Hi Graham, perhaps your skin is still sensitive after the course of Accutane. I know myself from being on Accutane that it was relatively sensitive for approx 2 years after the course. I only used accutane for a few months and just came of it myself as it was really not good and I could feel it.
I was acne free for a year, but then the acne slowly came back, but my skin was still quite sensitive. I would think your skin will still be going through something of a 'recovery' period after being on it - just my guess.
Interesting what you say about the batches though. It does appear that the second last batch changed dramatically, and then this last batch has been 'improved', but perhaps not quite to the level that we had it before. Whether this Glycol stuff is interfering with the medication process - I don't know, but I said this way back at my first post - that I thought something had been added to make it more smoother for application, and I wasn't wrong.
I totally understand that Dan strives to achieve a fantastic product with the BP and I 100% commend him for it - but I sincerely hope that he takes these opinions coming from the ground level, serious enough to look into what can be done to get the product back on track.

Hey, Thanks for responding.
I sent a msg to Dan and got the same response from Brandy. i haven't used it for the past 2days and i haven't had any new breakouts. to be honest, i'm really scared of applying it again since it gave me really large red bumps with puss inside. i've never gotten these types of bumps before and they are painful and unsightly. at this point i don't know if i should continue, cuz when i wake up and see these things on my face it's very depressing.
