Note: The before picture does not accurately reflect how bad my acne was at times. I used to be scared of getting photographed/taking pictures of myself because I falsely believed that my skin would never heal completely. The before picture was taken after I had been on supplements and a 100% organic diet for about 2 months, and after my 22 day juice fast. It was taken 10 days into my anti-candida cleanse and diet (Very late, I know). The camera was actually pretty forgiving too. At its worst my face was extremely dry and flaky, and had numerous whiteheads, blackheads, cysts, and even occasional fungal infections (Even more disgusting than acne).

A Revelation
I started smoking weed and drinking when I was 14. It wasn't long before I started doing it heavily. For the next 5 years of my life, I smoked and drank on a nearly daily basis, and experimented with cocaine, mushrooms, LSD, ecstasy, LSA, heroin, Oxycontin, benzos, DXM, nitrous, DMT, Salvia, ketamine, and many other substances. Somehow I remained generally healthy until I was 18, right as I started my freshmen year of college. I started getting acne, at first small breakouts that would heal quickly. They quickly became more frequent, and they started to leave "scars". I continued to party all the way through my freshman year, regardless of the fact that I knew I was damaging my body.
During the summer after freshman year, I had a revelation. A solid one. I had done mushrooms many times before, but never by myself. While tripping on psilocybin mushrooms alone for the first time, I had an epiphany. I needed to stop doing drugs. I need to regain my health, and clear my ugly skin. While I don't condone of drug use, I will openly say that psilocybin mushrooms gave me valuable insight that may have saved my life. I had tried to quit drugs so many times before, but never lasted longer than a few weeks. After that trip, I quit everything cold turkey. No more weed, alcohol, or ecstasy. Pure sobriety (I've now been sober for over 6 months, longest time I've gone in 5 years. I have no intention of ever going back to my old ways.). This is where my journey to end acne and regain my health began.

How I Got Clear
Let me start off by saying that if you want to get rid of your acne, you must be extremely determined, diligent, and patient. Oddly enough, I've been interested in natural health and eating lots of organic foods since I was 17, and I am lucky enough to hold a job at a local health food store. But eating organic foods couldn't counteract rabid drug abuse. By the way, I must note that I am completely opposed to the usage of ANY pharmaceutical drugs, prescription or non. The pharmaceutical industry is a business. If they keep you sick, they make more money. Sounds cynical, but I've seen this information supported from hundreds of different angles. Now that I was completely sober, it was time to get rid of my acne. So my first step was to start eating 100% organic and drinking only pure distilled/spring water. Not everyone can afford to do this, but regardless, you can still go on the Candida diet I will mention later. I also began taking 3 supplements that played a vital role in clearing my skin: a whole food multivitamin (Garden of Life Vitamin Code Men's), omega 3's (Carlson Fish Oil), and probiotics(Garden of Life Primal Defense). At the same I started exercising regularly (3 times weekly), and using the sauna at my school to induce sweating (Great for cleansing the body. There are many other ways to induce sweating, Google it). My health was improving, but I still had acne. I knew this would take time. I decided to cleanse my body with a thorough juice fast. I actually made it 22 days on juice and water alone! I lost 20 lbs in 3 weeks (But I'm naturally slim, so I put it all back on. If you're overweight, juice fasting is the easiest and most efficient way to quickly lose weight. If you're underweight, it can help slow your metabolism like it did for me.). But I still had acne. Don't get me wrong, by this point, I was feeling infinitely better than before I started. A thorough detox and healthy diet may be all you need to rid you of your acne. But my case was different. FINALLY some other symptoms (Dry skin, bumpy scalp, gas, bloating, bad breath, white coating on tongue, rectal itchiness) clued me into the true cause of my acne; Candida albicans. Being as determined as I was to get clear, I quickly began a STRICT anti Candida diet. This included pure spring/distilled water, non starchy vegetables, pumpkin/sunflower seeds, almonds/cashews, eggs, and meats. That's about it. If you want a full list of foods to eat/avoid just let me know. DO NOT GIVE IN TO THE CANDIDA!!! You may crave sugar/carbs/alcohol as most do on this diet, but if you give in you won't make progress!! To really stay on the diet you need to do lots of cooking for yourself. My favorite dish became sauteed zucchini with oregano, garlic powder, and salt. Another tip; utilize lots of natural herbs and spices to help you along (Sea salt, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, cayenne pepper, black pepper, etc.) I also simultaneously began a Candida cleanse called CandiGone by Renew Life at the same time. The cleanse and diet made my acne and other symptoms worsen at first, but this is what is known as the die off reaction. This is a sign that your efforts are working. Depending on how long you've had the Candida overgrowth, the detox may last quite a while. The die off reactions for me were terrible; my legs and arms broke out in a huge rash I had when I was a kid (Which I now know was caused by Candida). I must also note that the die off reactions come and go like a rollercoaster ride, and they did so for the entire time I was on this diet/cleanse. There were many times when I thought, "Yes, this one if going to be my last zit ever! I'm almost clear!" only to be struck by another wave of symptoms. Patience is a must. Once the Candida is fully cleansed, you will look and feel amazing. Also, if your taking other supplements while doing this cleanse, you need to make sure they don't contain anything that would feed the Candida (yeast, wheat, sugar, etc.). Once I finished the Candida cleanse by RenewLife, I continued to take an anti-candida supplement for the remaining months (NOW Candida Clear, New Chapter Candida Take Care, NOW Olive Leaf Extract). I's best to rotate the anti-Candida products you use every month or two so that the Candida doesn't become accustomed to them. I should also note that I always shoot for 8 hours of sleep a night. I don't wash my face anymore because even with an organic face wash it was too drying. The topicals I use are Bragg's organic apple cider vinegar (Diluted with pure water), Nutiva organic extra virgin coconut oil, and Aloe Life aloe vera gel.

Reflections
I need to say honestly, getting acne changed me as person in a few very positive ways. Yes, it did make me depressed and I isolated myself for quite a long time, but it forced me to end a 5 year drug addiction which potentially saved me from going to jail, overdosing, and/or dying at a very early age.
Straight up, I used to be a self-righteous, cocky asshole before I had acne. I'm obviously still not perfect, but I think I've definitely put forth a greater effort to be kind to everyone, because I now realize how much of an impact every little action has on other's. When I was in my worst stages of depression, a random smile from someone was all I needed to brighten my day.
Lastly, acne (And also fasting) has taught me take nothing for granted. Before I had acne, I didn't realize just how lucky I was to be healthy and happy, with a beautiful girlfriend to boot. Only when I had lost it all did I look back and begin to appreciate the little things in life that I did have.

What I cured: Acne on face, chest, and shoulders, recurring fungal infections, dry/bumpy scalp, dry skin, gas, bloating, bad breath, white coated tongue, and rectal itchiness.

All that's left are some blackheads and red marks, which I'm confident will dissipate in time.

With enough determination and patience, anything is possible.

If you have any questions for me, feel free.

P.S. I am still on the diet. 1-14-10 marks exactly 3 months. I'm going to do a full 4 months to fully cleanse my system. I'll post an updated pic around then too.

Edit: Dropped out the extra Zinc. 15 mg in the multivitamin should be enough. Also switched to spring water as I feel I may not be getting enough trace minerals.

Congrats anonymou5! I´m really happy for you! This thread is truly inspiring since I´m on a candida diet myself. It´s really helping me to understand things I´m doing when reading your experiences, for example the die-off symptoms that come and go. One week I´m clear and feel awesome overall, the next week its back to hell. Fighting candida isn´t easy, but I really hope it´s worth it!

Kudos to you and Brenton B for showing us the way! Happy new year! eusa_dance.gif

Thank you, I'm making it my goal to help others on the road to curing acne. I know how painful it can be mentally and physically. Happy new year to you as well, and DOWN WITH CANDIDA!!! smile.gif

Congrats, great results.
I assume you're using coconut oil and ACV as well to treat red marks left over?
Or do you use something different for that?

Congrats man its great you could do it the holistic way, really good. I have a question though. What do you do when you have to stray from your diet for social reasons? I did something similar in the acne no more ebook but i found it a bitch to maintain results because its impossible to always prepare your own food, find the time e.t.c. Good luck with your future and keep us updated if you maintain your results!

i remember getting banned for saying that shrooms are good at relieving stress and learning about your problems. a lot of people just don't get it, but that's alright. so what would you say was the silver bullet in clearing up your acne? the anti candida diet or the fast or vitamins?

and can you give us more detail as to what you actually ate for each meal in your day?

Yeah I'm still using ACV at night, and coconut oil during the day when I don't need to go out. Otherwise I use aloe vera gel. They're fading verrrrrrrrrry slowly, but I know it'll take time.

To be honest, I never strayed from my diet once. I would always carry a large water bottle and some nuts or seeds with me. People thought it was weird, but I just made some excuses like "I'm trying to save money" or something like that. I live at home and commute to school, so I usually have time to cook for myself. I hear you though its definitely not easy for most people to keep up with

I only took one course, but when that was done I started taking other anti-candida products like NOW Candida Clear. Now I've run out of that and switched to Olive Leaf extract. It's best to rotate them every so often so the candida doesn't become accustomed to it.

That's bogus. I'm just telling it how it happened.
Everything I mentioned played a role in getting me clear. I'd say the biggest factor was the candida diet and cleanse, but supplements also played a huge role in achieving that. Water is also a key factor, I usually drink a gallon of distilled water daily. As a rule of thumb, you should drink at least half of your body weight in ounces daily (180 lbs = 90 ozs). After the fast I felt amazing, my lungs and bowels cleared out significantly, but it didn't really help my acne at all. But if you're overweight or don't have regular bowel movements, fasting would greatly benefit you.

Heres a full list of things that you can/can't have:
Enjoy
Distilled water
Vegetables – Garlic, cucumbers, cabbage, broccoli, celery, lettuce, cauliflower, spinach, bell peppers, onions, zucchinis, green beans, etc.
Eggs
Meat - Beef, chicken, buffalo, bacon, goat, lamb, fish, etc.
Pumpkin/sunflower seeds
Almonds/cashews
Almond butter
EV coconut oil/EV olive oil
Apple cider vinegar
Sea salt
Herbs and spices

Avoid
Sugar (In any form)
Honey
Fruits/Fruit juices
Yeast
Any type of grain (Wheat, rye, oats, barley, brown rice, quinoa, corn, amaranth, buckwheat, oats, etc.)
Alcohol
Peanuts
Mushrooms
Dairy/Cheese
Vinegar
Starchy vegetables (Potatoes, legumes, carrots, sweet potatoes, yams, beans, squash, beets)

Here's some recipe ideas:

Tahini veggie dip
Mix to taste:
Tahini
Distilled water
Apple cider vinegar
Garlic
Onion powder
Olive oil

Easy salad dressing
Mix to taste:
Olive oil
Apple cider vinegar
Salt
Pepper
Oregano

Sautéed zucchini
(try this, one of my favs!)
1 pound small zucchini, cut into 1/4-inch slices
Salt and pepper to taste
Herb of choice, such as marjoram, oregano or thyme
1 tablespoon olive oil
Sprinkle the sliced zucchini with salt, pepper and herbs. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, adding more if needed to cover bottom. Add the zucchini and sauté until slightly tender and golden brown on each side, about 5 minutes per side. Enjoy!

Roasted sunflower seeds
Sunflower seeds
Salt
Garlic powder
Olive oil

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Mix seeds with olive oil and herbs and stir well. Spread out seeds over aluminum foil on a baking pan and cook for 25 minutes, or until toasted.

Italian spinach
¼ to ½ lb fresh spinach
1 tbsp olive oil
1 clove minced garlic
Sea salt
Black pepper

Wash spinach well and shake off water. Heat olive oil in a small skillet, add the garlic and sauté for a few minutes without letting the garlic brown. Add the spinach, cover, and simmer until leaves are wilted. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Good Ole Potroast
This recipe calls for a 3lb brisket of beef. One clove garlic, minced. One large chopped onion, one bay leaf, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon course black pepper. You can add a variety of vegetables to this dish such as carrots, celery, bell peppers, squash etc for a one dish meal.
Preheat oven to 450. Rub meat with garlic and pepper and place in a greased heavy sauce pan. Brown meat for 10 minutes on each side. Add remaining ingredients and one cup of water, reduce heat to 300 and bake for about 3 hours or until tender.

Steamed Broccoli
Rinse off your broccoli well and break into bite-sized florets. Cut off the stem and peel off the thick skin around the stem. Quarter or halve the stem lengthwise. Bring 3/4 to 1 inch of water to a boil in a saucepan with a steamer. (Note that is you don't have a steamer, you can simply put the broccoli directly into an inch of boiling water.) Add the broccoli to the steamer and cover; reduce heat to medium and let cook for 6-7 minutes. The broccoli is done when you can pierce it with a fork. But be careful not to overcook the broccoli. As soon as it is pierce-able, remove from heat and place in a serving dish.
Seasoning: Sauté a few cloves of garlic in olive oil, add pepper and lemon juice. Pour over steamed broccoli.

Other ideas:

Sautéed chicken breast (Seasoned with sea salt and lemon pepper)
Sautéed fish (Seasoned with sea salt and lemon pepper)
Sautéed bell pepper (Seasoned with sea salt and pepper)
Sautéed zucchini (Seasoned with sea salt, garlic powder, and oregano)
Scrambled eggs with green peppers
Omelet with vegetables
Omelet with meat
Hardboiled eggs
Celery with almond butter

I am trying to jump in into this as it is really similar to paleo (paleo - fruits) and that's what got me the clearest, but I am having problems with the supplementation aspect. Could you summarize the supplements that need to be taken, when, for how long, in what months, etc. Thanks, I would appreciate it.

BTW, my idea is to do this diet for 2-3 months (/until I am completely clear) and then get back to my current diet, which is exactly this + fruits and tubers (no grains, no dairy, except for the weekly cheat after I am completely clear), will that work or do I have to keep this diet after I am clear?

This is what I took throughout the whole process (All at their own suggested doses):
1. Whole food multivitamin
2. Omega 3-6-9 blend
3. Zinc
4. Probiotics

While taking all those and starting a strict candida diet, I did a 15-day CandiGone cleanse by RenewLife. When that ran out, I just started using other anti-fungals (One at a time) like NewChapter Candida Take Care, NOW Candida Clear, Olive Leaf Extract, Caprylic Acid, etc. You should rotate different products every time you run out to keep it guessing.

As for the length of time you need to be on the diet, it varies. I've been on it for nearly 3 months, and I think I'm going to go for four because although my acne is cleared, I still have a few small rashes that came back. It really depends how long you've had it living in you. You should be able to go back to a paleo diet after this, but you need to make the transition very slowly.

Good to see it worked for you mate, your acne was very mild in the first place but still a good improvement.

I didn't realise you fasted as well? How long did you do this for, was it before you started the candida cleanse?

Rye is a grain and a type of wheat, so it is not allowed.

Thanks. Like I noted at the top of the post, my acne was much worse than that, I just put off taking a picture of it for such a long time. I used to have multiple whiteheads, blackheads, and cysts simultaneously.

I juice fasted for 22 days before the candida cleanse.

I just want to put this out here. The amount of Zinc your taking is too much.

"when used orally and appropriately. Zinc is safe in amounts that do not exceed the tolerable upper intake level (UL) of 40 mg/day"

Taking zinc higher than 40mg a day might decrease copper absorption and result in anemia.
