I've used a couple products that have Willow Bark Extract. (I believe they were both made by the Boots brand sold at Target.) I used one once and broke out with cystic acne. I didn't know for sure what was causing it, but I stopped using the product and it got better. I used another product and broke out in cystic acne again, I looked at the ingredients and realized it had willow bark extract as well, and I refuse to use anything with that ingredient in it ever again.

Does anyone else have this problem with this or any other particular ingredient? Or does anyone know why this ingredient causes that?

Thanks!

It was a spot treatment, I think I used it twice.

Pretty much ever product at first breaks you out somewhat, it takes at least 2 weeks of using it to see results. So, if I were you don't be discouraged by first results it always takes some time.

Best of luck.

Thanks! I'm doing good now. I'm using the benzoyl peroxide regiment and it's working great so far. I just have to deal with scars now.

Awesome, for scarring the best option in my opinion is after you stopped getting acne is to get a chemical peel and it just makes your face so good. So many benefits to having one. Get rid of all your scars. Chemical peels would be something like glycolic acid.

Moved to the Over-The-Counter Acne Medications board. (The Announcements And Feedback board is for discussing technical issues on the boards, and says in the description, "To have an acne related question answered, make sure to post in one of the other forums below".)

Willow bark extract is a chemical derivative of salicylic acid, so it's a BHA. Which products were they? Only, I use Boots Botanics Pore Perfecting Night Cream which contains contains this ingredient. It's the only cream which doesn't break me out! Unfortunately, it's discontinued in the UK now, so I have to buy it from ebay.
