Hi everybody,

I'm hoping I can find some help here. I just discovered the Regimen and am thinking about trying it, but I'm wondering if it will be helpful for the type of acne I have. I tend to get a few very big very deep cysts on my chin every month. It usually happens around the same time-- every doc I've been to attributes it to hormones. I was helped a lot by spironolactone and bc pills, but had to stop it because of some major side effects that weren't skin-related. I keep my skin very clean, as well as my diet.

I'm wondering if I should try the Regimen for this type of acne. Anybody had or heard about success with this type of acne? Also, my skin gets very dry easily so I'm worried about applying the BP all over my face when only my chin needs help. Can I spot treat the shin using the regimen, or it is something that needs to be used all over the face?

I feel lucky that I don't have the acne everywhere, but the chin is pretty bad for me and it's leading to some deeper scarring. Help! Thanks in advance. smile.gif

I think the Regimen is definitely worth a try. We get a lot of feedback from adult women who find the Regimen to be very helpful. You may want to browse through the Success Stories. http://www.acne.org/success.php
You can use the Regimen only on your breakout-prone areas. There's no need to slather it all over the face if you don't have the potential to break out all over the face. Don't spot treat though, use it very generously on your chin area. It's the generous usage of bp that clears the skin. Use it twice daily, every day.

I hope it helps and keep us posted on your progress!

Awesome Brandy, thanks! I'll give it a try. Anything is better than the deep cysts I'm getting now. smile.gif

The problem with applying the regimen only to your chin is that your chin will go red (from the BP) for the first few weeks and this can look awful. I certainly looked like I had a sunburnt chin when I tried it out.

Redness is a common reaction to BP, but it doesn't look as bad when your whole face is red (cuz you will simply look like you're sunburnt).

Do you think I can avoid this if I start slowly and work my way up to applying more? I've read on the boards that this often helps with the irritation...

Most people do experience some redness and dryness, even if they take things slowly. It just takes time for skin to get used to BP.

You can minimize these effects by starting out with a very small amount once a day, and increasing the amount you're using very slowly, allowing your skin plenty of time to get used to the BP, until you're using a generous amount of BP twice a day. Have a good moisturizer on hand, too.

Even if you do experience some redness and dryness, keep in mind that it's temporary, and it will subside as your skin adjusts. : )

Just ordered the starter kit! I think I'll take it slowly like you suggest, my skin is pretty sensitive. I also ordered the jojoba oil so hopefully that will help soothe any irritation that arises. Will report back on my progress. Thanks all!

Best of luck! And the jojoba oil is good stuff, so I'm glad you ordered that too. : )

This is my second time trying out BP on my chin. The first time I tried, I slabbed on huge amounts of this stuff and it really gave me a burnt chin. I went to work like that too, so I'm sure people were all wondering what on earth was wrong with my chin. But the positive thing was, it completely got rid of my chin acne and it didn't come back for about 6 months.

This time, I've started out slowly, like it is suggested. But it still gave me a burnt chin the first couple of days, and one of my colleagues rang me at work to ask what I had done with my chin ... so yeah, I guess a burnt chin can't be avoided. But I'm really running out of options. Nothing (over the counter) other than BP works at getting rid of my chin acne.

Yes, definitely start out slowly with it. Take about a month to work your way up to the full generous amount.

Wow, burnt chin is no fun!! I'll definitely start slow, especially since my skin is super sensitive already. I've been using salicylic acid (Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish) which caused some dryness, but not a lot of improvement. I'm really hoping the BP helps. It's so frustrating to get those deep deep chin cysts; topical doesn't help. The only thing that really works is a cortisone shot. But those are painful, expensive, and the last two left me with dents on my chin (hoping they'll fill out but I heard it can take months).

I wish I could have kept on with the Spironolactone, because it helped a great deal-- but not worth it to feel like I have the flu 24/7. Most people don't have that reaction, but for some reason the Spirono was really rough on my body. sad.gif

Like I said, this is my second time on BP. It's been a week now and I'm glad to say that my skin has adjusted to it. The "obvious" redness on my chin is gone (if you look closely, you can still see it is slightly redder than the rest of my face though), and I'm glad to say that the itchiness and flaking have also subsided. I started off really slowly this time and I'm now increasing the dose.

I hate chin acne!!!!!!!!

TGirl, if the Spiro worked so well for you, how 'bout giving one if its natural alternatives a try? Saw Palmetto and Agnus Castus are among them. Check out reviews on this site. Best of luck to you.

I hear ya, Sky! If this BP works for me, it'll be a miracle. I've tried so many things. My derm gave me a prescription for Retin A Micro, but I'm going to try the BP first along with a round of Doxycycline. Hoping that will help.

Are your chin breakouts cystic like mine? It wouldn't be so bad if it was shallow acne, but those cysts run so deep!

I've never heard of natural alternatives to Spiro! Are they androgen suppressants or diuretics? It's the androgen suppressant in the spiro that helps, the diuretic effect of the spiro seems to be the thing that makes me feel so sick. I'll have to check it out, thanks for the tip!

Occasionally (like now), I get a deep cyst that takes weeks to go away (and when I think it's gone away with whatever acne treatment I've applied to it, it comes back a week later).

But what bothers me more is all the mini comedonal acne on my chin. They are like white heads that don't go away. Some of them eventually turn into inflamed acne, which means I constantly have a few active pimples on my chin.

But with this second round of BP, it's slowly clearing the stuff up.

The first time I was hit with chin acne was three years ago. That time, I cleared it up with doxycycline.

The second time was last year. I cleared it up with BP + doxycycline.

This time, I wanna try BP on its own. Taking too much antibiotics can't be good for me.

I also don't like taking antibiotics. If what you're getting is surface stuff, the BP should probably clear it on its own, since it's more shallow... let me know how it's working for you.

I received my products yesterday and started applying them last night. I'm starting really slow because my skin is fair and very sensitive. I started with my natural cleanser Dr. Hauschka, then applied five drops of jojoba oil all over my face (that stuff is fantastic BTW!). Then I applied a little smaller than a pea sized amount of BP to my chin. It wasn't much BP, but I definitely felt it working even over the jojoba oil! This morning my blemishes seem to have dried out a bit, but the skin around the blemishes is fine-- no dryness or flakiness. So I repeated the same procedure again this morning-- cleanse, jojoba, small drop of BP. Next week I'll step up the amount of BP after my skin has adjusted to this new regimen. I'll post my progress here.

I didn't take the doxycycline this morning because I got food poisoning last night and my tummy's out of whack today. Will try to start that in a couple days when I'm feeling better.

Well I've been slowly working my way up with the BP and I must say it's working great! I started with a very small amount for the first few days and have worked up to a pea-sized amount twice a day, only to the chin area. I apply it over Dan's moisturizer. I've been applying the BP for about 2 weeks now. I've only noticed dryness on one day, every other day has been good. And overall, my chin seems to be clearing of the cysts! I'm also taking Doxycline. My cycle is coming up soon, so I'm going to try taking the dose of Aleve to curtail any hormonal bumps that might arise. But I must say, so far, so good! Thinking I may not need that Retin-A prescription my derm gave me... I'd rather avoid it anyway, I've heard it's pretty harsh!

Also wanted to let you guys know that I got two saline injections for those dents I had left over from two cortisone injections. It really helped! They seem to have reduced by about 70 percent. I'll have another saline injection before the year is over to see if I can get rid of those dents for good. I'd recommend trying the saline for cystic scars if you haven't yet... it's an easy procedure and it really helped with mine!

I also used to get cysts anywhere on my face. specially forehead. After I started using benzoyl peroxide 2.5 (benzac AC) the way Dan uses, i started noticing the difference. I am not totally clear but I am seeing better results than accutane.

I loove it.

A little update from me.

I've been on the chin-only regimen for a month now.

It cleared most of the comedonal crap, but this week, I got two new pimples on my chin (one of them is pretty big too).

This could be because I am not applying the full generous amount of BP. I'm using less than a pea size amount twice a day. Every time I tried to increase the amount, my chin would become noticeably redder, and I really can't put up with a red chin at work!
