Hi all. If you are 25+ and still have acne, please take part in this poll!
As for me, I am option # 2. My acne is due to genetics...

My mom had very bad acne when i was 8 years old and had it all the way up to age 30 til she had a hysterictomy. Now she has not one pimple or even a scar, you would never know she ever suffered from acne.

Your mom had a hysterictomy at 30? isn't that too young for that? But I guess if you are done having children, I guess its not a bad idea especially if you are getting acne from all the hormonal issues.

I think adult acne can be categorized into mainly 2 types, one resulting from hormonal issues and the other because of allergies etc. My dad has SD and when we did an allergy test on him, we found he was allergic to plenty of things including dust, pollen etc etc. There is no way you can avoid being exposed to dust completely and so he suffers from SD, constant itching etc. He also had acne till about 22-23. I read somewhere that if your skin is sensitive/allergic to something in the air, food etc. it will get irritated and produce more oil. This oil in turn will cause acne especially if you are still young and your pores are smaller. As you get older and your pores become larger, you may not get acne anymore like my dad.

I don't really fit into any of the above it started when I was eleven and I've still got it. I think Hormones may play a part. There is very little known history of acne in my family my father had it as a tenager but grew out of it in his early twenties.

I don't know why confused.gif

Well even my father grew out of his acne by the time he was 22-23. But he has always had oily skin and seborrheic dermatitis. Even SD is due to oily skin. And he has HUGE pores, its literally like holes on his face. He is allergic to a lot of things. I am thinking of doing an allergy test for myself as I feel my oily skin is a result of being allergic as well. But if I find I am allergic to dust or something, there is nothing I can do about it. Right now my acne is under control with antibiotics. If and when they stop working, I will have to go an accutane...
But I am also hoping that after pregnancy, my acne will go away. I have heard it happens for some women. Also my pores may become huge that acne can't form anymore. Already my pores are huge at 30 but maybe not big enough for acne not to form. I know most women want to minimize their pores, but I don't really care. Truth is I am really scared of accutane and its side effects...
